Strombecker was famous as the premier hardwood preshaped model manufacturer before plastic kits were introduced. In the 1940s and 1950s, Strombecker kits were flawlessly engineered but not inexpensive. All wooden parts are hardwood and are precarved to shape - usually only a quick sanding would finish them. This kit is hardwood with many plastic injection molded parts, so it was produced in the transition from wood to plastic. The prop hubs, spinner, tip tanks and fuselage are wood, while the wings, props, scoop and tank fins are red plastic while the canopy is injection molded in clear. Full color decals are furnished as well as a "Join the Strombecker Model-Makers Club" brochure. Never started. Factory sealed bag or inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions.

Very rare near 1/48 scale kit. From ITC molds. When ITC went out of business, Ringo was the name used to clear out the warehouse of ITC stock. NOTE: kit is missing the following parts - Main rotor shaft (could be made from round stock) - four clear, flat windows (could be made from flat clear stock) and one main gear strut. The kit has never been started. All other parts are present. Like most all Ringo kits, this one does not come with decals and the instructions do not mention decals.

The first aircraft to fly across the Atlantic in formation. The S-55 was a unique aircraft with the passenger compartments in the floats and the cockpit in the wing; the two engines are mounted in tandem push/pull above the cockpit. The S-55 proved to be very reliable and airworthy, setting 14 world records for speed, altitude and distance with a payload. Three months before Lindbergh's solo Atlantic flight, and S-55 flew with stops from Italy to Rio and NY City. In 1933 Marshal Balbo led 25 S-55s to Chicago in about 48 hours. He then flew back without incident. Rare early Italian issue with the excellent 34 page heavily illustrated reference book. Never started.
