Monogram Speedee-Bilt Vought F4U-5 Corsair - Flying Scale Model - (F4U5), G14

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

Sold

Very rare first issue of this highly prefabricated scale rubber powered wood flying model from the early 1950s. Before there were plastic models, there were wooden aircraft kits. These usually came in two types - solid and stick and tissue. The solid models were static and usually contained a few blocks of balsa and sometimes a detail part or two. These "Make Wood Look Like Plane" models required a very high level of skill in carving and finishing. The stick and tissue variety were slightly easier to build and provided the ultimate thrill - they could fly when complete with rubber power (and later with free-flight gas and eventually RC). They still required a great deal of skill, so manufacturers sought ways to make model building more accessible to everyone. One idea was pre-carving and/or prefabrication. This raised prices, naturally. Many manufacturers launched lines of 'easy' to build flying models but only Monogram succeeded in making an entire line at an affordable price that would actual fly. The original "Speedee-Bilt" kits were in one-piece two-color boxes as this example. The Speedee-Bilt Corsair features die-cut and factory-painted blue wooden parts, completely formed 'Monofoil' airfoil wing, fully carved wooden fuselage nose section, carved and painted wheels, plastic front cowling with engine front, pilot, machine guns & four bladed propeller, clear vacuform canopy (still mint and perfectly clear- no yellowing), rubber motor, full decals, covering tissue (also blue) and more. The instructions are detailed and highly illustrated. Never started. Inventoried and NOTE: missing one small piece, a balsa wood rectangle #15 (gear door). Otherwise includes all other parts, decals and instructions.

RPM Minenraumer - Alkett VsKfz 617 - Operation Citadel Kursk 1943, 1/35, 35100

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed NM

Sold

Still factory sealed. From Rob Arndt at strangevehicles.greyfalcon.us: This bizarre armored tractor was jointly designed by Alkett, Krupp and Mercedes-Benz with a silhouette truly worthy of a machine of science fiction. The hull of the vehicle was covered in variable shielding between 10-40 mm, with a floor shielding of 40 mm designed to resist the explosion of multiple mines. The floor itself was reinforced by an additional shielding of 20 mm inside the machine for added protection. The first prototype VsKfz was completed in 1942. The presence of manufacturing plates in the vehicle makes it possible to establish the following conclusions: The manufacturer was Alkett of Berlin and on a plate Nmr VsKfz 617 and Nmr 9537 is engraved. VsKfz 617 refers to a Pzkfw 1 tank and 9537 is the chassis number. That would imply that the turret is of an Ausf. A type but this one has the specific characteristics of an Ausf. B; in particular, the hooks of turret (Traghaken) are located on the top and not the side walls of an Ausf. A. The superstructure possesses a turret of the Pz.Kpfw I tank which is equipped with two 7.92mm MG-34 machine guns ensuring the close defense of the machine. During these ground displacements, the changes of direction were accomplished by orientation of an aft wheel controlled by a system of chains actuated by a wheel. The mobility of the machine was ensured by two enormous discs on which heavy mobile shoes were fixed which were theoretically resistant to the explosions of all mines. These shoes have a form resembling those which equipped the wheels of heavy pieces of German PAK artillery. The principal role of the vehicle was the detonation of mines to obtain a cleared access path for German infantry and AFVs. This was to be achieved by the exercise of a very strong ground pressure using the nine shoes with permanent ground contact. During the trial tests, it proved that this vehicle was unsuited to the operations of modern mechanized warfare. Its ponderous weight, slow speed, and its awkward size made the Minenräumer (minesweeper) a large target for opposing artillery and the project was thus abandoned.

Resin Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed Exc

Sold

Still factory sealed and rare. Very highly detailed resin cast kit with clear canopy. Decals and paint guide are included for the aircraft shown. The "B" variant of the infamous He-162 has two AS-14 Pulse Jets mounted on the back of the fuselage between the twin vertical stabilizers. The Heinkel He-162 Salamander is a German, single-seat, single-engine jet fighter from the end of World War II. The flight of the prototype took place on December 6, 1944. He-162 turned out to be a winner on the so-called People's fighter (German: Volksjäger), which was to protect the German sky against attacks by Allied heavy bombers. The plane had an unusual layout with the engine (MW 003E-1 or E-2) placed on top, on the fuselage, with short trapezoidal wings and a very aerodynamic silhouette. Like the Me-262, it was one of the milestones in the development of aviation. By the end of the war, however, only about 300 aircraft of this type were produced, and on a small scale they were used in combat in April and May 1945. Technical data: length: 9.05m, wingspan: 7.2m, height: 2.6m, maximum speed: 790km / h, rate of climb: 23.4m / s, maximum range: 975km, maximum ceiling 12000m, armament: permanent -2 20mm MG151 / 20 cannons.
