Revell Lockheed ASW P-3A Orion, 1/115, H163-100

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

$44

Hardbox issue is copyright dated 1965. Purchased new on May 12, 1966 at S.S. Kresge Department Store in Cleveland, Ohio. The flaws in the Lockheed Electra airliner ensured that it had a short service life in commercial service. But the sound design was modified into one of the most successful and long-serving of all ASW aircraft - the Orion. Revell seized upon this opportunity to recoup some of the money sunk into the Electra molds. The molds were modified to make this kit, the 'A' version of the venerable patrol aircraft. Features optional position landing gear and loading door and movable wheels and props. The kit has never been started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes decals and instructions.

William H Low Co Rumsey Service Hose Reel 1850 - Wilo Line Fire Trucks, 1/24, CR110

Multimedia Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

$89

Very rare. Likely from the 1940s. William H Low Co., of Braintree Mass., issued the 'Wilo Line' which featured a superb series of antique commercial firefighting equipment, all in 1/48 scale. Bill Low was the designer of all kits and he was a superb model maker. The scale is given as 1/2" and the finished model wagon is approximately 7 inches long without the horse hitch and ~ 12 inches long with it. The kits were very advanced for the time and shared many of the pre-fabrication methods of Hudson Miniatures. Wilo Line kits features "all parts in this kit cut to size and shape." Includes plastic injection molded spoke wheels, precut and machined large and small wooden parts, beautiful, metal stock, a sealed bag of smaller parts including a great many more fully carved wood parts, metal parts and full size plans with numerous drawings and detailed text instructions. There is even a big photo of the actual prototype. The kit has never been started. Internal factory sealed small-parts bags with the non-sealed parts inventoried complete including instructions/plans. The kits in this line include Amoskeag Steamer, Hose Reel, Hose Wagon, Chemical Engine and many others. In most cases they are the only kits in existence of these historic vehicles. Bill Low did design at least one 'non-fire truck' kit in his Will-O-Line - a Conestoga Wagon, advertised as being 1/24 scale, kit #B14 for $2.85 listed as "This is another Museum Piece by Bill Low." After seeing these fire truck kits, I do not doubt that.

$36

Very nicely done kit in the Frog tradition. On the 28th of September, 1936, the Bristol 138/A climbed to an altitude of 49,967 feet to establish a new world altitude record. In 1937 it climbed to 53,967 feet where the windscreen cracked. The pilot was saved by the pressure suit he was wearing. The kit has no assembly but NOTE that the fuselage has been very very lightly airbrushed. There is no other painting. Inventoried 100% complete including decals and instructions. Box art is by the famous Jo Kotula who did 1930s covers for the magazine 'Model Airplane News' and later the Aurora box art of the late 1950s. Air Lines kits are all Frog molds that the Lines Brothers imported to the USA between 1964-1966. The kits, decals and instructions were made in England, then imported to the USA where Testors created the boxes with the colorful trading cards on the back. There are one or two trading cards on each box which show the boxart but not the advertising/logo. Some kits contain a Testors color painting guide also, but it is not specific to any model.

A turbo-supercharger was installed, and this aircraft achieved an impressive 340 mph at 20,000 feet in 1937. However, it suffered from frequent turbo-supercharger failures. An order for 13 service aircraft followed on December 11, 1937. The first service models delivered between April 29 1939 and December 5, 1939 were designated YP-37.
