US Borax Borax Twenty Mule Team and Wagon, 1/48

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+

Sold

I like to call this the 'deluxe' issue of this kit. Normally these models are found in a plain cardboard mailer box with red printing. This issue features a hardbox with a full color lithograph 'slick', a large Borax products fold out brochure, a coupon for a free 31 oz Borax and color instructions. The instructions feature a highly detailed narrative by 'The Old Ranger' on the Borax wagons, what it was like to drive them, the 'Skinner', the 'Swamper', swinging the team around and more. Very nicely detailed kit. Features Front Wagon with complete suspension, steering gear and brakes, Second Wagon with same, Water Wagon spigot, crew, 7 teams of two mules each, 'chain' and rigging instructions. Never started. Still in the factory sealed bags with instructions. The Borax company commissioned this kit as a tie-in to the TV series 'Death Valley Days'. Originally a radio program, 'Death Valley Days' had a long run on television and ended as one of the longest running westerns in entertainment history. Very nice kit of the famous borax wagons that would cross 162 miles of Death Valley with 20 mules in the days before the railroad. There was not a single house or other sign of habitation along the route. One leg was 60 miles with no water. The two wagons carried 25 tons of Borax and the mules covered 16 to 18 miles a day with a two man crew. The sturdy wagons were purpose built for the trip. Although they carried huge loads, there is no record of one every being stranded.

Revell Cutty Sark Clipper Ship - 3 Feet Long, 1/96, H364-995

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG-

Sold

First issue of this kit dated 1960. Large and highly detailed kit. Measures 36 inches long when built. Since this is the first issue, the model has the factory painted copper hull below the waterline. The factory paint is in very good condition with minimal wear. Since this is a first edition it also contains the booklet about the Cutty Sark and a sheet 'From The Log Of The Cutty Sark',. Kit features highly detailed deck, deck houses, cargo holds and covers, masts, yards and booms, bilge pump, windlass, 20 crew figure, and lifeboats with oars, life preservers, anchors and anchor chains. Includes draftline and transom decals, figurehead, finely detailed hull, preformed ratlines and molded deadeyes, pin rails and blocks, full standing rigging instructions and diagrams, flag sheet, thread and chain for rigging. Molded in three colors. NOTE: this kit has never been assembled but it has some painting on a hull half. That half has the interior section above the deck painted white, which is correct. Also a small section of the outside is painted black and there are two small touchups to the copper hull paint. The quality of the work is very good. The other hull half is untouched and there is no other painting on the model. The parts have been removed from the trees and the kit is inventoried 100% complete with all parts, four colors and thicknesses of thread, two sizes of metal chain, decals, flags, running/standing rigging instructions and building instructions. The box top looks better than the the 'VG-' grade, but is graded such since all four corners were neatly repaired from the inside. The lower box was tattered so a new lower box was made from gray medium weight cardboard.

Scientific 1910 Maxwell Two Seat Roadster, 1/16, 173-1295

Wood and Metal Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

Sold

From 1969. One of the finest wood and metal car kits ever produced. The car measures 7 inches long when assembled. The kit is very highly detailed. Features complete engine, exhaust, suspension and drive line - the kit builds up a rolling chassis just like the actual automobile. There are many cast metal parts- springs, horn, brake lever, steering wheel, flywheel, cowl lamps, steering knuckles, wheels, radiator, radiator screen, louvered hood, fenders and more. The engine itself is 17 parts. The tires are real rubber. The wood parts are either pre-shaped or on printwood with some stock materials. Includes clear windows, pre-cut convertible top material, two large sheets of full size plans, a sheet of photo taken of the completed model, detailed instructions, a hardwood display stand and more. The kit has never been started. The parts that were internal factory sealed are still sealed, and all other parts have been inventoried 100% complete including instructions and plans. Scientific may have planned an extensive line of these uniquely detailed kits - however, this was the only one ever issued. The very steep price of 12.95 in 1969 was probably more than enough to ensure a short production run and termination of the idea. Scientific Model Airplane Company was founded by John D. Frisoli of Newark, N.J. He started the business in a 12 foot square store in the 1940s. By 1952 John had sales of plane, boat & race car kits and accessories totaling about $200,000 annually.
