Hawk F4D Skyray Triangle Box, 1/72, 402

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Fair

$39

Rare Triangle Box issue from about 1957/58. As a marketing experiment, Hawk tried this novel and colorful box only with the Skyray. Dealers found it difficult to stack with other kits and it was discontinued. Most parts are molded in gloss white, with a green-tinted clear canopy and brown pilot. Never started. Inventoried and NOTE: Missing one rectangular gear door. Otherwise includes all other parts. NOTE: the four bombs are blue and not white; they are from another issue of this same kit. This box rates as only 'fair.' It has splits, wear and some clear tape on the top right as shown

Revell Supersonic Jet Fighter Gift Set F-104A Starfighter F8U-1 Crusader F11F-1 Tiger - S Issue - (F11F / F8U1), G268-298

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

$459

1956 first and only issue in very good condition. The box has excellent color and gloss, four solid corners with no repairs, no rips, no tears and no fading. It shows the typical stains from the factory 'gift set' ribbons that Revell shipped these kits with. Never started. All three aircraft are still in the original factory sealed clear plastic bags. All paper work and the famous Revell Swivel Stands are in the factory sealed bags as well. The correct center factory divider is still present in the tray (box bottom) and there is a small, unopened, factory wrapped tube of Revell "S" Cement included.

Revell Merchant Fleet Gift C3 Freighter Hawaiian Pilot / Standard Oil T-2 Tanker J.L. Hanna / Harbor Tug Long Beach, G332-495

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

$475

Rare 1956 Revell Gift set containing all three ships and even the unopened tube of colorful Revell "S" cement. This was the first and only issue of this specific gift set and features spectacular special box artwork. The tugboat is 1/108 scale and the tanker and cargo ship are both 1/400. Inside, the kit is 100% correct. The special color cardboard over lay is factory fresh. The tug and C-3 lower hulls are factory painted red (the T-2 was molded in red so it was not painted). Decals are included. The instruction sheets are excellent with the typical yellowing as the only flaw. The three kits have not been started. The tug and freighter still have the small parts in the factory sealed clear bags; the parts that were never sealed have been inventoried complete. The tanker has been inventoried 100% complete. All three kits include decals and instructions. The box has brilliant color and gloss, four solid corners and no repairs. There is no tape, tape marks, price tags or price tag marks. However, there is moderate and light general wear and 'dings' on the two lower corners as shown. Shipping insurance is required with this kit.

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+++

$419

The DC-3 is 1/90 scale and features optional position cabin door, rotating propellers and wheels, pilot, copilot, hostess and passenger figures and colorful TWA decals. The Super G Constellation is 1/131 scale and features two hostesses, two loading ramps, tip tanks, battery truck and full TWA decals. The models have not been started. $44

It has been inventoried and NOTE: missing rear axle and coffee pot. Otherwise complete with all other parts and instructions. 'Miniature Masterpieces' was formed through an alliance of Lew Glaser (Revell) and Steve Adams (Adams Action Models) in 1953. Although the molds were made at Adams and it had the appearance of an independent company, the firm was run by Revell down to the prototypes being made at the Revell plant. Originally there was no evidence of the parent company on the surface. The State Coach of England was the first kit - without figures and horses, issued in 1953. More kits of excellent quality followed. Revell completely took over the line in 1954 and in that year and the next, kits were labeled 'Revell' with a 'Miniature Masterpiece' label on the box top also. 1954 advertisements from Revell list the complete line as the H506 State Coach of England, H510 Ranch Wagon, H503 Covered Wagon, H502 Marquis de Lafayette Carriage, H504 Roman Racing Chariot, H501 Wells Fargo Stage Coach, H509 Western Figures and H507 Chuck Wagon.

Universal Thunderbolt P-47, 1/43, A3

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Fair+

$29

Very rare model from about about 1942/3. It is a completely pre-fabricated multi-media kit; No painting is required and all parts are formed to final shape. It features fully carved and painted hardwood fuselage, carved and painted main gear wheels and struts, heavy, die-cut red and black cardstock wings, tail feathers, gear doors and other details, and cylindrical hardwood dowels for machine guns and gear door actuators. The cardstock wings have top and bottom halves and when placed over the main spar they are 3D with an airfoil. Never started. The kit has been inventoried and NOTE: missing one piece of die-cut cardstock, the main wing spare. Easily made since there is a perfect pattern: the sheet is present where it was neatly die-cut from. Otherwise includes all other parts and instructions. NOTE: the instructions have bug damage, but not enough to interfere with assembly. Also note: while a historical bit of modeling, this is not a scale model. It is in the middle-ground between being a toy and a model. Universal Toy and Novelty Company was located at 1225 South Wabash Avenue in Chicago Illinois. Although they were around for decades and had extensive production, little is known about the company. When model kits became popular in the 1920s during the early aviation craze, they were quick to jump on the bandwagon. In the 1920s they are also know for a fine series of baseball cards. Other model kits were of ships, tanks, etc. and some had incredibly colorful box designs like the Cruiser Chicago and some landing craft.

Hobby Bereznyak-Isayev BI-1 - Soviet Rocket Fighter - Bagged, 1/72

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed Exc

$24

Still factory sealed with the original header. Limited run Russian injection molded kit with brown and an injection molded clear canopy. There is little flash and fine raised and recessed detail. Please note that the kit did not come with decals and the instructions are inside the header. 'BI' stood for Blizhnii Istrebitel, which was 'close-range fighter' in Russian. Obviously, it also stood for the last names of the designers. The program was the Soviet Union's effort to produce a low cost rocket interceptor. The airplane flew and flew well, but it was plagued by engine issues, corrosion from nitric acid, and eventually tail flutter at high speeds that caused the loss of the most experienced test pilot, Grigory Yakovlevich Bakhchivandzhi. The early development started in 1938, with the first flights in 1940. The aircraft underwent a series of engine improvements and was still testing through 1945. The aircraft never entered series production. Bi-1 through BI-9 were built.
