La Belle D&RG Alamosa Business Car HOn3 Narrow Gauge - Craftsman Model, 1/87, HOn3-24

Wood and Metal Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

Sold

Please read the article on this website about older HO train kits and the modeling revolution they caused in the late 1930s/1940s. During the golden era of realistic train models, La Belle Woodworking Company created perhaps the very finest scale kits of early American passenger equipment. The kit features die cut hardwood parts (no balsa) such as pre-cut and scribed sides with all windows factory cut, car ends done in the same fashion, carved clerestory roof, tinted clear clerestory window material, working end diaphragms, excellent underside and cast metal details, building instructions and plans. I have seen these models built and they look identical to the real prototypes. The kit has not been started and is complete with all small parts still factory sealed, the larger ones inventoried complete with instructions.

Airfix Hawker Siddeley Buccaneer S.2B - 208th Sq RAF Lossiemouth 1988 / 12 Sq RAF Lossiemouth 1985, 1/72, 03055

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc++

Sold

This kit features cockpit and crew of two, 2 piece canopy, D Link pod, under-wing fuel tanks, Radar Martel, TV Martel and Sea Eagle missiles, markings for both aircraft listed and more. NOTE: this kit has very minor, 'professional' quality subassembly as follows: one wing is assembled (two pieces). There is no other assembly. Inventoried 100% complete and includes decals and instructions. The Buccaneer was the world's first purpose designed low level 'below the radar' bomber. Low level strike aircraft have a shorter airframe life limit due to the stresses of low level flying, so the Buccaneer was designed to be very strong and even had many sub-assemblies milled from solid metal.

Ace Model Shop 1946 Ford Super Deluxe Sportsman Convertible, 1/24, 15R

Multimedia Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good++

Sold

Dated 1946. Although Ford is not mentioned, there is no mistaking that this is the Ford Sportsman Convertible. This well designed prefabricated model is primarily wood with plastic wheels and tires and with some metal details and other metal parts. Features main wood parts that are all cut to profile (cut in two dimensions) or die cut and with other wood stock such as dowels. There are four excellent one-piece plastic wheels/tires with tread, a small, sealed clear wax paper sack with some small metal parts (like a steering wheel, etc) and metal stock as well. There are excellent instructions with detailed building text, full size three view drawings, photos of the assembly process and a very nice photo of the built model. Never started. The small parts are still factory sealed; the parts that were never sealed have been inventoried complete and includes all paperwork. The famous modeler Gordon A. Babb founded Ace in 1942. Mr. Babb was born in 1897 and became a well-known builder and competitor in the model field with aircraft and cars. National 'how to' hobby magazines often carried details articles about how to build his designs. In his first year in business, he sold 1,800 jeep kits. By 1952 the line had greatly expanded the line to hot rods, T-rods, midgets, roadsters and much more and he was expecting to sell 600,000 model kits. Mr. Babs was famous for inventing the first gas-powered midget racer model which sparked a nation-wide building spree and speed competition. His 'Ace Model Shop' was in Pasadena, California and the mailing address was 60 N. San Gabriel Blvd. Later the address was simply Ace Products, Pasadena 8, California. Most solid 'display' kit producers in the 1940s simply provided plans and blocks of wood, maybe with a few accessories. Ace went well beyond that with all cut-out parts, fully formed wheels and even some metal parts, occasionally small plastic details and sometimes even decals. The plans went well beyond the average also, featuring numerous views (not just three), detail views for sub-assemblies and even text instructions. There were at least 15 car kits in the line and also many military vehicles which were popular kits in World War 2. We don't know what happened to Ace 'Models Of Merit' but the introduction of plastic kits (started by the Highway Pioneers) put an end to most wood kit production.

MPC Pilgrim Observer Space Station Nuclear Powered, 1/100, 9001

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

Sold

Rare original issue from 1975; not the common reissue. Still contains the Flight Data and Technical Guide. This offering from MPC is one of the most interesting and a classic among Science Fiction kits. Large 1/100 scale kit is 17 inch long, has excellent detail and a large clear section to show interior detail. Fourteen movable parts allow you to display or change the ship's configuration from "Launch" to "Earth's Atmosphere Entry" to "Space Cruise". The kit has never been started. The parts that were factory sealed are still in the sealed bags. The parts that were not factory sealed have been inventoried complete including decals and instructions. There was a time when space research was not aimed at the earth's orbit and moon, but at distant planets in our solar system and eventually beyond. Planning went much further than most people are aware. The main limitation was seen as the chemical rocket motor. It could only be fired once and the specific impulse was limited. To overcome these limitations, the United States embarked on a large program to build the nuclear rocket engine. Unlike the nuclear aircraft engine, this program overcame the technical obstacles placed before it was VERY successful. The effort resulted in numerous test engines up through the Phoebes 5000 MW monster, which is still the world's most powerful reactor. The nuclear engines could run at full power for an hour, then be shut down and restarted up to a dozen times or more. Also, the flow of fuel (liquid hydrogen) could be regulated through turbo-pumps to 'throttle' the engine just as one does a car engine. Crew radiation shielding from the engine was less than requirements for cosmic ray shielding. At one point, a KIWI series reactor (KIWI-TNT) was blown up on purpose to test the environmental impact; it was minimal and clean up went quickly. The final result was to be a space rated engine called NERVA, or Nuclear Engine for Rocket Vehicle Application. Before the project was terminated, many vehicles were designed for deep space exploration based on these amazing engines.

Airfix TWO Henschel HS-123 A-1 - Spanish Civil War or Luftwaffe, 1/72, 02051

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

Sold

SALE!! Includes two kits. Both are never started and inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. The Hs-123 was the Luftwaffe's first in-service dive bomber and was built by the famous locomotive maker Henschel. The '123 had been replaced by the start of WWII by the Stuka, but demand continued for the aircraft and they were of great use in Belgium and France. During the terrible weather of the Russian campaign, the HS-123 once again found itself in demand. When conditions were so bad that other aircraft could not fly, the Hs-123 would often be in the air. The sturdy construction and good flying characteristics made it a favorite among pilots.

AER SRL Moldova PARM-2 Soviet Field Aircraft Repair Workshop Truck - Bagged, 1/72, ZA7208B

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

PARM-2 trucks designed in 1937 and included equipment for gas and electrical welding, lathe and drilling machines, workbench, specialty tools and more. The bags were put under aircraft which were landed gear or crashed, then inflated with an air compressor. This worked not only on single engine fighters but on Pe-2 and Il-4s as well. Almost 200 PARM-2s were built and the design and function were considered to be very successful. Their useful lives went well beyond WWII.

ESCI TWO Leo 1A1-A1 / Scankit Kenworth Aerodyne Conventional / THREE JB Models M113 ACAV / Hasegawa M-1 Abrams / Hasegawa Leopard 2, 1/72, 8073

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+

Sold

SALE!! Includes all 8 kits in the boxes shown. NOTE: Sold AS-IS and not inventoried. This collector was very meticulous and of his kits that I did inventory, 95% are complete. But on these kits he cut the sprue (trees) with the part numbers still attached to each number, so the parts are loose. Because of that, I have not inventoried these kits. NOTE: he often built minor sub assemblies to 'professional' quality. Again, these kits are sold not inventoried and AS IS hence the very low price.
