Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: NM

Scale Flight Model Company in Bloomington, Indiana, USA was dedicated to releasing authentic reproductions of the finest "Dime Scale" flying model (stick and tissue) kits from the 1930s/40s. Dime Scale models used to sell for a dime in the 1930's, hence the name. They are actually box scale, but as a general guideline, they usually had a wingspan of 16 inches and have simple and light construction. "Dime Scale" models are now a class flown in some competitions. Kit consists of contest grade printwood, contest quality strip wood, machine cut balsa propeller, the best Japanese tissue, wooden wheels, competition bushed nose plug, brass thrust washers, prop shaft, prop freewheeler, FAI rubber strip motor and a copy of a genuine dime scale plan that was used in the 1930s-1940s. Lindberg Sea Raider (Q-Ship - Decoy Ship) (AK-101 USS ATIK), 1/390, 731-69

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: NM

$225

Very rare hardbox issue from the late 1950s. Classic kit with Ray Gaedke artwork. This is the Lindberg Q Ship, which has an unknown prototype but is suppose to be a WWI style Q-Ship submarine trap. The ship appears to be a WWI British Q Ship by the title, yet looks a little modern and has US numbers of 171, which apparently mean nothing. The Lindberg model actually has the layout of the AK-101 USS ATIK, which was formerly the SS-CAROLYN, built in 1912. The CAROLYN was recommissioned as the USS ATIK and at the start of WWI which was a real US Q-ship. The box is in fantastic 'near mint' condition with like-new color and gloss, four solid corners and very little wear. This kit has never been started. It has been inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions.

O-Lin Ryan Navion / North American Aviation NA-143, 1/48, 507

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+++

$165

Very rare kit for the advanced collector. This is a very hard to fine original O-lin kit in the small box and advertisement for O-line cement on the top. Production first began in 1949 or just before. O-Lin (Olin) was founded by Paul Lindberg and a Mr. Olsen - hence the company name. Although a producer of flying models in the 1930s, O-lin produced some of the earliest American injection molded kits in the late 1940s. In 1950 the partnership may have ended, because all branding was changed to Lindberg and Paul Lindberg. Inside, the kit is as new. It is molded in high gloss ivory. I have seen many cases where Paul Lindberg used up the old O-Lin stock, combining different sets of instructions and decals resulting in odd combinations. While I admire his efficiency, it makes does make collecting these unique. This model has the O-Lin box, O-Lin instructions, O-Lin parts and the earliest 'Lindberg Products' decals dated 11/1952 on the back. The kit has never been started and is inventoried complete with all parts, instructions and decals. The Navion was originally produced by North American Aviation as a high performance sport plane, but they sold them to the US Air Force as well. North American sold the rights to Ryan, who continued to successfully produce the aircraft.
