AV Models Tachikawa Ki-74 - Pat Or Patsy, 1/72, AV84

Resin Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed Exc

Sold

Rare. Still factory sealed. Beautifully molded in high-definition resin. The Ki-74 was first conceived in 1939 as a long-range reconnaissance aircraft to operate from Manchurian bases. Its development was shelved when further research was needed to design its pressurized cabin. Late in 1941 the project was revived as a long-range high-altitude bomber-reconnaissance aircraft capable of bombing the United States mainland. The war ended before the aircraft could be deployed in sufficient numbers. When the Ki-74 designation was first identified in a captured Japanese document, it was thought to apply to a fighter type and was coded with the boy's name "Pat". Later, proper translation of captured documents finally confirmed that the Ki-74 was actually being developed as a bomber type, the codename was feminized to become "Patsy". The gender change of the name was an embarrassment to TAIC (the Allied group in charge of the aircraft codenames), and was one of the very few code name changes late in the war.

MPM Kawasaki Ki-64 Rob - Heavy Fighter, 1/72, 72119

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

Sold

Still the only model kit ever made of this fascinating aircraft. The Ki-64 experimental heavy fighter was one of the most advanced and unusual Japanese wartime aircraft. The power plant was the 2350 hp Kawasaki Ha-201, which was two Ha-40 12 cylinder liquid-cooled engines mounted in tandem and driving two contra-rotating propellers. The forward prop, driven by the rear engine, was variable pitch while the rear prop was driven by the front engine and was fixed pitch. The steam vapor cooling system used water and the wing and flap surfaces for cooling. Five flights were made starting in December 1943. On the last flight, a fire started in the rear engine. An emergency landing saved the airplane, but repairs were not completed before the end of the war. This is a limited edition injection molded model featuring very fine recessed panel lines, vac canopy and full decals. Never started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes decals and instructions.

Revell Avro Dam Buster Lancaster With Secret Bomb, 1/72, H202-200

1963 hardbox issue. This model features specially modified Lancaster fuselage with Dam Buster bomb and release mechanism, retractable anding gear, rotating propellers and wheels, working control surfaces and more. Never started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. The Dam Busters squadron was famous for their daring raids on three German dams on May 16, 1943. Carrying the special Barnes Wallis-designed bombs, the Lancasters flew very low over the water in the face of heavy flak to drop the rotating bombs perfectly. Many did not return. The bombs did perform as promised, first skipping over the water, hitting the dam, then rolling down 30 feet before exploding with tremendous force. In an airburst, these bombs would not have damaged the dams, but since water is incompressible, the dams were breached.
