O-Lin LST - Landing Ship Tank, 1/250, 702

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

Sold

Very rare kit for the advanced collector. From the very early 1950s. This is the O-Lin issue of the Varney LST. The Varney kit line was introduced in the late 1940s and was very innovative - including the multi-media LST and PT boat and what was likely the first injection molded airplane (PT-17) and ship model (Fleet Sub) kits in the USA. These excellent kits were unsuccessful due to poor distribution and incorrect marketing by retailers. Varney soon discontinued production of these four kits. O-Lin, (Mr. Olsen and Paul Lindberg) purchased these molds and modified them in several ways. The LST had been a wooden kit with dozens of injection molded detail parts. The O-Lin kit utilized the injection molded details (done in multi-color tennite plastic), but created a vacuform hull, cardboard deck, water-slide decals and flags and soldered metal wire railings. O-Lin did not use the wooden hull from Varney as a form for the vac hull, but created their own. This kit has not been started. The parts that were factory sealed are still in the factory sealed bag. The rest of the parts have been inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions.

Berkeley is a very famous manufacturer of flying model kits from the Golden Age of flying aviation, about 1932-1954. Founded in 1933 by William Effinger, the company was quite progressive in producing quality kits - it was likely the Berkeley 'Buccaneer' was the first gas powered model in kit form. In the later 1930s, Effinger acquired the services of a very talented Henry Struck. Struck went on to design numerous award-winning kits under the Berkeley name. Berkeley weathered the post WWII recession and emerged as a major kit producer in the late 1940 and 1950s. These were great years for Berkeley and they produced some incredible and large kits. The company went bankrupt in about 1960 however. Fox engines (Duke Fox) bought the company and released the kits alongside his own FOX models and engines. This arrangement did not last, and in the early 1960s the Berkeley name disappeared from hobby shop shelves.

Sterling AT-6 Texan - 18 inch Wingspan for CL or Rubber - Landing Gear Operates in Flight, A9-149

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

Sold

18 inch wingspan kit for rubber free flight or control line. Includes innovative system for making the landing gear operate in flight. Sterling was a famous manufacturer dating back to the 1930/40s flying model craze. Although they continued to produce kits for decades after the flying model slump following World War II, they eventually fell victim to the general lack of interest in modeling that occurred in the early 1980s. I always considered Sterling kits to be deluxe kits as they featured color decals, high-grade die cut balsa, vacuform plastic detail parts, clear vacuform canopy, plastic wheels (if required), finished wire landing gear, rubber motor and plastic prop, full size plans with instruction details and full instructions for conversion to RC or control line. The model has not been started. The parts are either in factory sealed bag(s) or inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions.

Dyna-Products Grumman F8F Bearcat Wood and Metal Model Airplane

Wood and Metal Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc++

Sold

In the 1930s and 1940s, most modelers built the flying stick and tissue type kits with rubber, co2 or gas power. But there were a small but measurable percent that built solid aircraft display models of great detail. This required great skill worthy of the shipbuilders of old, especially considering the limited offerings. Many manufacturers issued blocks of wood and a plan - the famous (or infamous) 'Make Wood Look Like Plane' kits. A few manufacturers, like Dyna-Model Products Company, attempted to provide true-scale static models with a high level of detail. Today Dyna-Models are legendary and sought after collectibles. When you first open the kit, you see a black and white cardboard display with all the needed jigs and templates for assembly. Underneath, the fuselage is rough carved (not just profile cut) and all other parts are rough cut or die cut. Includes a vacuform canopy, color decals, full size and well-detailed plans and the crowning jewel, a box of 15 finished metal castings for super detailing your aircraft. The model has not been started. The parts are either in factory sealed bag(s) or inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions.
