The 'B' variant decals are for 'Lady in the Dark', a Pacific P-61 that flew an Oscar into the water for the final air-to-air victory of WWII. Kit features some interior detail, crew of three, rotating turret and elevating guns, independently molded elevator and wing flaps and a wide variety of underwing stores with four bombs and four drop tanks.

A well engineered, highly prefabricated model featuring all die-cut quality balsa parts, a large number of completely formed parts including fuselage sides, top and bottom, wing sheet covers, tail feathers, etc, finished wheels, plastic cowl & prop, rubber motor, hardware set, clear window material, colored tissue, color decals, full size plan and separate teaching instructions sheet. The Aeronca Champion was a typical trainer manufactured after WW II in anticipation of teaching masses civilian pilots. The aircraft won great attention and high praise. It was a forgiving machine with a top speed of 100 mph and it would cruise at 83 to 90 mph. The fuel capacity was 14 gallons which was good for 270 miles at cruise. Most Champions had enough instruments and equipment for almost any single engine training program.

The actual kit is a very large full-scale model- even the rib spacing in the wings and tail is correct to the original, as is the stringer spacing of the fuselage. The only exception to scale is the modern airfoil cross section. Designed for R/C or control line with a .19 to .29 gas engine and measures 30.5 inches long with a 40 3/8 inch wingspan. Highly detailed. Features all die-cut sheet wood parts of very high quality balsa, numerous plastic details and metal radiator parts, wood and metal stock as needed, dowels, blocks and cut to shape wood, a great deal of hardware, three huge full color decal sheets and superb full size plans with instructions on them. The kit has never been started. The small parts are still in the factory sealed bags and the parts that were never factory sealed have been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. Sterling was a famous manufacturer dating back to the 1930/40s flying model craze. Although they continued to produce kits for decades after the flying model slump following World War II, they eventually fell victim to the general lack of interest in modeling that occurred in the early 1980s. I personally considered Sterlings to be 'deluxe' kits.

From the mid 1960s and rare in this condition. This is the large 1/3 scale motorized Wankle which is long out of production. The outer box is 'very good' and all of the inner packing boxes are complete and in 'excellent+' or better condition. The paperwork is unusually complete with the Renwal Warranty Sheet, Warranty Registration Card, Instructions Supplement sheet, the booklet 'How A Rotary Engine Works' and full instructions. All paperwork is in 'excellent+' condition or better. The kit is molded in clear, orange, black, grey and contains a great deal of other hardware including the electric motor, gears, 3V light bulbs (for ignition simulation), springs, belt, tubing, screws, nuts and various contacts. The kit has never been started. All of the hardware and smaller parts that were sealed at the factory are still factory sealed. The other parts were never sealed and have been inventoried complete.
