Comet was a famous manufacturer of stick and tissue flying and static models. In the 1930s Great Depression, they lead the low-priced kit revolution with the "Dime Scale" kits and famous advertisements in Model Airplane News magazine and others. Comet reached it's peak in the 1930s when they acquired the services of Carl Goldberg. Goldberg was a highly accomplished modeler with articles in Model Airplane News and famous designs that won him several National level competitions in the 1930s and beyond. (Carl Goldberg went on to found his own company and produced well designed and popular free-flight and RC aircraft). Comet survived the post World War economic slump and continued kit production until they were bought out by long-time competitor Guillow's in 1998.

Revell US Coast Guard Cutter Eagle - with Sails, 1/254, H347-300

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

Sold

Second issue hardbox from roughly 1960. This issue used the same dramatic box artwork as the original issue 'S' kit and is molded in the same colors - white, light wood tan and dark brown wood. Very well detailed and molded, like most early Revell sailing ships. Features full hull with display stand, detailed deck fittings and houses, separately masts and yards arms, separately molded belaying pins, excellent deadeye assemblies, lifeboats, Revell's superb preformed rat lines, rigging instructions, rigging material and vacuform billowing sails. The sails are in 'excellent++' condition. Never started. Inventoried complete with all parts, decals and instructions present. Please note that the box has heavy wear on the sides and edges and tape residue also, but the kit inside is excellent. The 295' bark rigged sailing ship was built in 1936 in Bremerhaven, Germany, for the German Navy. It was originally named Horst Vessel. The vessel was acquired in 1946 as a World War II war reparation. The ship was named the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Eagle, and has been used ever since as a training ship for future U.S. Coast Guard Officers. Eagle is based in New London, Connecticut.

Aurora Piper Apache, 1/64, 280-29

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+

Sold

1963 issue and still the only injection molded Apache kit. From ex-Comet molds. Features all recessed panel lines, clear windows, rotating propellers and color decals. Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions. Aurora had started a line of inexpensive 29 cent kits in about 1957. The line was a success, and it was expanded. The line grew again when Aurora purchased the Comet molds, as most of Comet's line was very small scale kits, many of them civil aircraft like this one. It appears that Aurora was encouraged by the sale of the ex-Comet civil aircraft, as it expanded the line of their own molds in the early 1960s.

Duro-Matic Invader Aluminum Control Line Gas Airplane

Metal Model Kit,   Box Condition: No Box

Sold

I have tentatively listed this as a Duro-Matic Invader, but I am not certain. It is of the same design, but that is all I know. It is very clean and may have never been flown. I say that because there is no fuel, grease, damage or obvious marks that it would have happened when it was landed. It is possible that it was flown, neatly grass-landed and carefully cleaned, however. The control line wires move the elevator but they are very sticky. There is no engine. It comes with the spinner, but I question if the spinner is original to the aircraft. I am not certain of the class; the wingspan is 13 inches tip to tip, the fuselage is 1 and 1/8 long (without the spinner) and it is 3 1/4 inches high at the engine cowl.
