Aurora Cessna Skymaster 337, 1/72, 279-70

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+

$49

1968 issue of the famous tandem light aircraft that saw civil and military service. After Aurora purchased the Comet molds, they reissued the Comet civil light aircraft line. It appears that Aurora may have been inspired by the Comet kits or sales of the reissues, and they produced several more new molds to add to the line. This Skymaster is one of those kits. Since the model was designed new, it has significantly more detail than the older Comet kits. Features all recessed panel lines, full interior with front and back bulkheads, four bucket seats and instrument panel, clear windows and rotating propellers. The kit has never been started. Inventoried and NOTE: missing one minor part, the rectangular nose gear door. Easily made from stock plastic. Otherwise inventoried complete including all other parts, decals and instructions.

Aurora Russian Mig-19, 1/48, 66-100

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Mint

$185

Very rare model in incredible, investment-grade 'Mint' box condition. The original owner very carefully opened the model but left the shrink wrap protecting the box top and four sides. It is in remarkable condition; there is no more wear than it left the assembly line with. Dated 1958 with fantastic Jo Kotula artwork; however the lack of 'Famous Fighters' in the oval boarder logo means that it is closer to the early 1960s. The model inside is molded in a wonderful gloss dark green and clear. The kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions. Instructions and decals are 'near mint' with slight yellowing as the only significant flaw.

StromBecker Republic F-84 Thunderjet, C47-79

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

$72

StromBecker was famous for this line of precarved hardwood kits and they are considered the finest ever made. The carving is done to the final shape which makes them remarkably pre-fabricated. Most included plastic detail parts (colored or clear), decals and sometimes even glue and wood filler (if applicable). When built it makes an impressive desk top display. This F-84 has a 5 3/4 inch wingspan. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. Please NOTE: the box displays better than the 'good-' grade but is ranked as such due to split corners and clear tape on the corners.

Hawk Laird Solution Racer - With Racing Pylon Stand, 1/48, 628-50

The Laird Solution won the first official Thompson Trophy Race in 1930 at the Curtiss-Wright Reynolds Airport in Chicago. The Laird was the only Biplane to win the Thompson and it beat all the military aircraft. There are four excellent plastic one-piece wheels with tread and a small clear wax paper sack with some small metal parts (like a steering wheel, etc.). There are excellent instructions with detailed building text, full size three view drawings, photos of the assembly process and a very nice photo of the built model. Never started. The kit has been inventoried with all parts present, and the small parts bag is still factory sealed. The famous modeler Gordon A. Babb founded Ace in 1942. Mr. Babb was born in 1897 and became a well-known builder and competitor in the model field with aircraft and cars. National 'how to' hobby magazines often carried details articles about how to build his designs. In his first year in business, he sold 1,800 jeep kits. By 1952 the line had greatly expanded the line to hot rods, T-rods, midgets, roadsters and much more and he was expecting to sell 600,000 model kits. Mr. Babb was famous for inventing the first gas-powered midget racer model which sparked a nation-wide building spree and speed competition. His 'Ace Model Shop' was in Pasadena, California and the mailing address was 60 N. San Gabriel Blvd. Later the address was simply Ace Products, Pasadena 8, California. Most solid 'display' kit producers in the 1940s simply provided plans and blocks of wood, maybe with a few accessories. Ace went well beyond that with all cut-out parts, fully formed wheels and even some metal parts, occasionally small plastic details and sometimes even decals. The plans went well beyond the average also, featuring numerous views (not just three), detail views for sub-assemblies and even text instructions. There were at least 15 car kits in the line and also many military vehicles which were popular kits in World War 2. We don't know what happened to Ace 'Models Of Merit' but the introduction of plastic kits (started by the Highway Pioneers) put an end to most wood kit production.
