They were larger, more powerful, faster, longer ranged and made their appearance in 1944. Steaming at 15 to 17 knots allowed them to be much more effective at evading U-boats. They were so successful that they became the basis of the US Merchant Marine after the war.

Classic Warships USS Sims Class Destroyer - Hammann / O'Brien / Walke / Buck / Morris / Russell / Roe / Hughes / Anderson / Mustin / Wainwright, 1/192

Resin Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

These destroyers served early in WWII and thus had a high attrition rate; Sims was lost with the tanker Neosho in the Battle of the Coral Sea, Hammann was assisting the crippled Yorktown at Midway when I-168 torpedoed both her and Yorktown. O'Brien, Walke, Buck and Morris were casualties of war also. The rest of the class were expended in nuclear testing after the war or scrapped in 1947.

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG++

$89

Rare kit from 1961 that also includes the Master Modeler Collectors Stamp and Club application form. The fantastic artwork of an RAF Canberra flying over 'The Rock' was originally painted by Akimoto. The Whip-Fly issue is based on the 1950s B-57 "S" kit and comes with RAF decals, flight ballast, handle, 12 feet of control line, control ring, colorful streamers for the jet engines and a underside pod which is a in-flight whistle! Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions. The complete Whip-Fly series included are H151 F9F-8 Cougar, H152 F-84F, H153 F-89D Scorpion, H154 F8U-1 Crusader, H155 F-39 Airacobra, H156 F-101A Voodoo, Canberra, F-106 and Yak-25 Flashlight. The Whip-Fly series seemed like a good idea...at first. Revell quickly realized that spinning heavily-ballasted, sharp objects at dizzying speeds in or outside the home near groups of children was potentially unsafe. The series was quickly discontinued.

Features full rolling chassis build up just like the actual vehicle, tilting sleeper cab, dual exhaust, fifth wheel assembly, hollow vinyl truck tires, and fully detailed cab with air ride driver's seat and sleeper compartment. Pyro IJN Syokaku Aircraft Carrier - Syokaku - Table Top Navy, 1/1200, C387-50

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc++

$34

Small scale ship kit from the Table Top Navy series and very nicely molded for their time. Can be built full hull or waterline and features propeller and shaft detail, separately molded island and other deck details and more. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and instructions. Many of the Pyro kits came from Eagle (then Eaglewall) molds in England. Eaglewall went out of business around 1962 and Pyro acquired at least some of the molds. Pyro reissued some of these kits in the mid 1960s with AJ Rudisill artwork. Evidently the line was successful, as Pyro then cut some of their own molds and expanded the series significantly. The earlier issues have the full color artwork and a three digit part number. Later issues have a 'B' or 'C' in front of the three digit kit number; some have simplified box art that is a modification of the original Rudisill paintings by painting out most of the background. Pyro issued these kits into the late 1960 when Life-Like took over the molds. Some were reissued by Life-Like.
