The side offers an interesting history of the Mustang, which I will repeat part of here with the original spelling and punctuation - 'It is a masterpiece of propeller fighter having, as the first of its kind, less air resistance, excellent movability and solid body. With the Arison Enine, developed for low sky flight, it showed lack of flying high and its capcity weakened in flying high. Air Forces of the Britain put it into the Support Corps for the Army.'

Aurora-Heller North American P-51D Mustang - USAAF 20th Air Force Pacific Theater / 8th Air Force Europe, 1/72, 6607

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc+

Sold

Unusual Aurora-Heller kit. One of Aurora's last efforts was to market quality Heller kits with the "Aurora-Heller" name. It was a good fit - Heller made quality kits but did not have the extreme marketing reach that Aurora had in North America. The kits could obviously be produced without a significant capital expense for Aurora since Heller had already cut the molds. Heller molded the kits in France, shipped them to the USA, and Aurora added instructions and a box. Although this was a good idea, Aurora's problems went much deeper and it certainly was not enough to save the company. This kit has not been started. The parts are either still in the factory sealed bag or inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions.

The entire Comet 1950s "N" line included the following (gaps mean there is no kit, at least at that time): N1 Tiger Shark P-40, N2 F-86D Sabre Jet, N4 Globe Swift, N6 Taylorcraft, N8 F-51 Mustang, N9 Helicopter, N11 Ryan Navion, N12 Firefly, N15 Piper Cub, N16 Fokker DVII, N17 Spad, N24 Phantom Fury, N25 Aeronca K (floats) and N26 Stinson SR-7. Comet was a famous manufacturer of stick and tissue flying and static models. In the 1930s Great Depression, they lead the low-priced kit revolution with the "Dime Scale" kits and famous advertisements in Model Airplane News magazine and others. Comet reached it's peak in the 1930s when they acquired the services of Carl Goldberg.
