Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc+

Sold

From the later 1960s. Comet advertises that the Struct-O-Speed series 'Puts Itself Together...That Quick!' on the box top. These kits were very highly prefabricated for their time, and in comparison to the regular stick and tissue models, the claim is not unfounded. Features die-cut balsa wood main parts, about 12 inch wingspan, finished wooden wheels, paper insignia and full plane/instructions. Features die-cut wings, fuselage sides and formers, tail surfaces, finished wood wheels, formed wire landing gear, metl prop shaft, plastic prop and thrust button and detailed illustrated instructions. Complete and never started. Comet was a famous manufacturer of stick and tissue flying and static models. Comet Piper Cub Cruiser Struct-O-Speed Prefabricated Flying Aircraft, 2302-100

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed NM

Sold

Still factory sealed. From the late 1960s/early 1970s. Comet would advertise that the Struct-O-Speed series 'Puts Itself Together...That Quick!' on the box top, and it was not a completely idle boast. These kits were very highly prefabricated for their time, and in comparison to the regular stick and tissue models, the claim is not unfounded. Kit features die cut and factory painted balsa wood parts, formed and finished wheels, plastic prop & thrust button, rubber motor and detailed instructions with flying tips. Has a 13.25" wingspan when assembled. Comet was a famous manufacturer of stick and tissue flying and static models. In the 1930s Great Depression, they lead the low-priced kit revolution with the "Dime Scale" kits and famous advertisements in Model Airplane News magazine and others. Hasegawa I-401 Motorized Wood and Metal Submarine, 1/160

Wood and Metal Model Kit,   Box Condition: Fair

Sold

Very, very rare. Few know that the first Hasegawa kits were primarily wood and there was quite a line of them. It appears that all were motorized, from the heavy cruisers, 1/300 IJN Battleships to a 1/400 NS Savannah and even a giant Iowa class battlewagon. This is the only submarine - I401 of the famous I-400 class airplane carriers. This giant kit measures 30 inches (762mm) long when built and is designed for static display or operation in water. Features a completely factory carved hardwood hull with no sanding required, fully cut and finished ribbed hardwood decks, factory assembled forward deck, numerous other hardwood parts all cut to shape, some small rough cut wood parts, a tiny scale aircraft model for the deck (plastic, 7 parts with decals, still factory sealed in the small box), numerous brass and metal hand-soldered parts including railings with stanchions, island gun decks and much more, metal props and drive shafts w/hull ports, a stunning all metal gear box with brass gears that is still mint in the box, a TKK Mabuchi DC motor still in the old-style box with instruction sheet, triple battery holders, reproduced photo of the built kit (and she is beautiful!), very large instruction sheet with numerous drawings for all steps and operation/motorizing notes (all in 'very good++' condition) and full-size blue prints in 'excellent' condition. The kit has never been started: NOTE: If the ship had decals or not is unknown from the instructions; there are none present. Beyond that, the kit has been inventoried with all other parts and paperwork. Even the original Hasegawa paper headers for the bags are present, and even the cardboard they were originally stapled to are present - although the bags were open, which is why I did the inventory. I have returned the contents to as close to factory condition as I could. You will notice yellowed cellophane in the photo - this kit originally had cello factory sealed over the inner box at the factory, so that the prospective owner could remove the box top and view the (factory sealed) contents. NOTE: the upper and lower boxes were complete but in very bad (poor) condition. I spent 4 hours fixing them correctly from the inside. Please be aware that I have rated them 'fair' and complete, but there were completely flat and in 5 parts when I received them. There is a great deal of wear, as you can imagine. NOTE: A shaft came off one diving plane but was present - I cleaned the parts and soldered it back into position.

Monogram Phantom Huey UH-1B Chopper Motorized with Sound, 1/24, 6867

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

Sold

Rare. Dated 1969. Large and completely transparent with a 20 inch long fuselage and nearly 2 foot rotor diameter. Well detailed with 184 parts and full internal detail. Features full cockpit, pilot and co-pilot, complete cabin, opening cabin door, inner fuselage framing, detailed engine and more. The electric motor (in the display base with the batteries) turns main and tail rotors. Sound unit makes "chop-chop" sound that varies correctly with main rotor speed. To minimize painting, the kit is molded in clear, zinc chromate green, black, chrome plate, gray, olive drab and flexible silver (ammo belts). The clear fuselage halves have no breaks or cracks, they are mint. The motor, battery contacts and hardware are still in the factory sealed bag. The other parts were never in sealed bags and have been inventoried complete, including 'excellent' decals and instructions. These boxes were thin, fragile and easily damaged. This one is in slightly above-average condition but has wear as shown. NOTE: this kit must be shipped insured.

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG++

Guillows Spad VII - 18 inch Wingspan Rubber Powered Balsa Wood Kit, WW-3

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc+

Sold

Purchased new in 1965. One of a very popular line of World War 1 flying aircraft stick and tissue kits with 18 inch wingspan. Kit features scale plastic wheels, plastic propeller, light vacuform nose cowl, die cut balsa parts, colored tissue, rubber motor and full decals. Includes full size detailed plans. The model has not been started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions. Guillow's founder, Paul K. Guillow, was a WWI naval aviator. In 1926 he began producing wooden model airplane kits. His 'Shelf Models' were some of the earlier non-flying models in production. Guillow's grew during the model boom of the 1930s, and when the Depression hit the hardest, Guillow's responded with lower prices and became one of the low price leaders, frequently advertising in Model Airplane News and other leading publications. During the war, like most manufacturers, Guillow's was forced to alternative materials such as cardboard and pine. Guillow's survived the post WWII slump by creating many inexpensive profile flying rubber powered aircraft and gliders in the 1950s (along with North Pacific) which became famous - some are still available today. The stick and tissue lines have been updated with laser cut parts and are still in production as of 2009.
