Hawk Howard Ike Racer - Lincoln International Issue - Bagged, 1/48

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed Good

$36

From the 1950s. Rare kit for the advanced Hawk collector. Still factory sealed but the header panel is in 'good' condition. I have shown the best side; the reverse has a price tag tear. This kit was 'Made in the British Empire by Lincoln International.' Lincoln was an injection molding firm that issued models as a side-line. Kits were made in Great Britain, Hong Kong, Australia and New Zealand and sold in many more countries. They reissued at least 13 Hawk kits. I have dated these late 1950s because the R3C-1 Army Racer (also released in this series) still has wheels. Later issues had floats.

Hawk Curtiss Racer R3C-1 - One Piece Box Issue 1946 - (R3C1), 1/48, 600

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+++

$150

For the advanced model collector. This is a model kit with a fascinating history as it may be among the very first injection molded kits produced in the United States (please see the article about early USA kit production on this website). The Hawk model company was the most innovative in America and had been making constant 1/48 scale models in wood and metal since the late 1920s. During the re-run of the World's Fair in 1933, Hawk may have made the world's first injection molded airplanes models - but they were not kits. The models were completely finished and were on display for the princely sum of $25 each. The Mates brothers, who founded and ran Hawk, were quick to incorporate this new technology by adding injection molded details to the wooden kits in the late 1930s. During the war, Hawk put it's injection molding knowledge to work making ID models for the US Armed Forces. Originally there was a nation-wide program to have children and adults make these from wood, but consistency was an issue - injection molded solved this problem. Immediately after WWII in 1946, Hawk made the Curtiss Racer model injection molded in black tenite. The box was a simple one-color affair. This kit, like Varney's PT-17, met a very cool reception at hobby shops. Hawk quickly changed the box to two colors, added box artwork and molding the kit in bright yellow acetate plastic. That makes it the second issue, still from 1946, and that is this kit for sale here. The box is in very good condition with great colors. There is tape on both end flaps. The box has not been crushed or flattened, which is unusual. These came in one-piece boxes and they are not very strong. Inside, the kit has minor assembly. The fuselage 1/2s have been glued. The quality of assembly is excellent - there are no gaps and no glue showing. There is no other assembly. The kit is 100% complete with all parts. The small parts are still sealed in the 'crinkle' bag. The instructions are in as new condition. Please note that Hawk did not issue decals with this issue of this kit.

Rare 1955 Revell model with the great box artwork that has made these kits so famous and collectible. There is no other assembly. Inventoried 100% complete and includes decals and instructions. The box rates only 'very good' because it has isolated and light age spotting as shown. The Long Beach was built in Decatur, Alabama in 1943 and was one of a fleet of tugs operated by the Wilmington Transportation Company. She had a registered length of 81.1 feet and a beam of 24 feet. The 1891 Panhard was among the very first modern cars and with it's groundbreaking innovations was certainly the grandfather of the present day automobile. This is a rare kit of this historic automobile from when France clearly lead the automotive world in technology and quality. This happened largely because the French people, government and authorities embraced the horseless carriage; this was the opposite of what happened in most countries, especially Great Britain where they regulated it almost completely out of existence. Nicely molded kit features about 75 pieces, detailed suspension and drive line, large assembly guide with numbered parts layout, text & fully illustrated step-by-step instructions and automobile history (in French). The kit has never been started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes instructions.

Miniature Masterpieces The State Coach of England - Circa 1760, 1/48, K500-69

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

$39

Rare early 1950s original issue that is molded in a very bright red plastic. Like all Miniature Masterpieces kits, this one is very finely engraved and molded with excellent detail. The model includes detailed instructions (rare for the early 1950s) and a wonderful history of this State Coach which was built for King George III. Never started. Inventoried and NOTE: missing one tiny part, (1) of (4) wheel retainers. Otherwise complete with all other parts and instructions. 'Miniature Masterpieces' was formed through an alliance of Lew Glaser (Revell) and Steve Adams (Adams Action Models) in 1953. Although having the appearance of an independent company, the firm was run by Revell down to the prototypes being made at the Revell plant. However, there was no evidence of the parent company on the surface. The State Coach of England was the first kit, issued in 1953. More kits of excellent quality followed. Revell completely took over the line in 1954, making the one-year original issues very rare.

Revell American Firefighters Hose Reel - With Horses and Firemen, 1/48, F202-98

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

$65

First Revell issue dated 1953. Features two highly detailed horses, hitch, carriage with frame detail, flexible hose, rope and metal chain, along with two firefighters and a Dalmatian dog. Molded in the correct white, red and gold plastic. It has never been started and has been inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions. The American Firefighters series has a very interesting history. Marlin first cut the molds in 1952 and issued the six original American Firefighters (Chemical and Ladder, Steamer, Hook and Ladder, Water Tower, Aerial Ladder and Hose Reel) in 1952. Revell signed a marketing agreement with Marlin in 1953. Five of the kit were released with the Revell name and marketing name 'Collectors Kits, Closter N.J.' Revell added the horse parts as they were not originally part of the Marlin issues. The kits made excellent display pieces, but they never caught the imagination of young men like jet aircraft did. The five molds were shipped to Brazil. After run for Kikoler (Revell Brazil's Distributor), they were shipped back to the USA but the molds were lost at sea. This issue is from when Revell still had the marketing agreement, as it says 'Trade Mark Copyright 1953 Marlin Toy Co. Inc' on the box top and 'Collector's Kits, Inc, Closter, N.J.' on the side.

Trumpeter Chinese 152mm Type 83 Self-Propelled Howitzer, 1/35, 00305

$22

Still factory sealed. Features 353 pieces. This is a 'special edition' with engine detail.

Aurora Jap Zero Famous Fighters of All Nations, 1/48, 88A-69

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

$325

Very rare. Most likely made in 1955 or maybe 1954. Please note the square 'Aurora Line' small logo and the 'Famous Fighters of All Nations' text to the left of it. The model is 100% correct inside, includes the original factory tissue packing paper, is molded in gloss yellow plastic and clear with the correct rectangular clear stand, four bombs and landing gear. Never started and inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. Nothing is broken; the instructions are in 'near mint' condition and the decals are 100% intact, just very slightly curled just at the ends and in 'very good+' condition. The box has excellent color and gloss but even wear on the top as shown; there is a tape tear on the left short side (1" x 3/4") and another smaller one on the right short side (3/8" x 1/4"). I believe this is the 4rd issue of this famous kit. The first was the Brooklyn, then the two 'Carrier' boxes, 88-59 and 88-69.
