Contrail A.V. Roe Manchester Conversion With Profile Book, 1/72

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG++

Sold

The vac conversion kit includes white plastic main vac airframe parts- wings, engines housings and vertical tail, as well as plans/instructions. The Manchester was an RAF bomber which entered service in November of 1940 with 207th Squadron. The design was sound but the Vulture engines were troublesome. Engine failures, fires and poor serviceability made it unpopular with crews. AV Roe was quick to solve this problem and wasted no time in replacing the Vulture with the Merlin - creating the Manchester Mk III - the prototype Lancaster.

Adams was founded by Steve Adams and released plastic assembly kits in the late 1950s. The company was innovative and the general quality of most kits was very high for the time- so much that builders (not just collectors) still seek the kits today. Adams is best known today for a series of military vehicles and missiles, although they also released an aircraft (Draken), helicopter (YH-41), balloon (La Coquette) and ship (SS Savannah). Some of these appeared in gift sets as well. The Adams smaller scale (1/40) Atomic Cannon, Hawk Missile Battery, Honest John, Vanguard (1/80) and Thor (1/87)missiles and other kits are still sought after today. Combinations of these kits were issued in gift sets, which are very desirable collector's items today. In the late 1950s, Adams entered into a joint venture with Revell, and several of the military kits were released under the Revell label, such as the Jeep among others. Around 1960 there was a disagreement between Adams and Revell, and the agreement was terminated. Sometime after this, Adams quit the plastic model business, and Life-Like purchased most of the Adams molds.

Lindberg PT Boat by Paul Lindberg - (P.T. Boat), 1/60, 701-198

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc-

Sold

Very rare 1950s Lindberg 1st issue with the early round logo. Very large and nicely detailed kit with over 120 parts. This early issue still features metal stanchions and metal hand rails. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts complete and includes flag sheet, decals and instructions. This kit has a very interesting history. It was originally produced by Varney in 1944. It was novel at the time as it had a wooden hull, cardstock deck but all injection molded tenite deck parts and details. But the world was not ready for this type of kit and dealers were hesitant to carry it - which resulted in low sales. Gorden Varney sold the molds for the kit to O-lin (Olsen and Lindberg). O-Lin reworked the kit using a vacuform hull, cardstock and tenite parts. When Lindberg took full control of O-lin, he went to an injection molded hull, colorful cardstock 'wood' deck, plastic parts, metal stanchions and other metal stock an needed (prop shafts, etc). This is that model.
