Revell Everything is Go - Mercury Capsule and Atlas Booster / Friendship 7 Flight, 1/110, H1833-250

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

Sold

Softbox issue dated 1969. Builder kit only; please read carefully. The parts are molded in the correct gray, silver and yellow. Includes the 'Everything Is Go' booklet telling the story of the Friendship 7/Lt. Col. Glenn Flight. This kit was modified from the Atlas Ballistic Missile molds. It is the single greatest model kit for the Mercury Atlas program. Contains highly detailed Atlas/Mercury, launching pad, ramp, tractor transports, nitrogen tank and trailer. NOTE: The kit has minor assembly and paint. The 3 rocket nozzles and the truck cab have been painted silver. Quality of paint is very good. The paint can be used, painted over or removed with DOT3 brake fluid, oven cleaner or other safe plastic paint remover. The small test cart halves have been built with pro quality assembly. NOTE: the truck grill was missing, so I included an additional truck body with the grill glued to it. It is up to the buyer to remove the grill safely. Including the glued grill, the kit has been inventoried complete with all parts including decals and instructions.

Pyro USS Washington Battleship - Table Top Navy, 1/1200, C389-60

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

Sold

Small scale ship kit from the Table Top Navy series. Very nicely done kits for their time. Can be built full hull or waterline. Features propeller and shaft detail, separately molded turrets, stacks, many superstructure parts and more. The kit has never been started. NOTE: Missing two catapults for the aircraft. An excellent copy can be made with stock styrene of the correct size - I have included two pieces of stock plastic cut two the correct length so you can build the kit. It has been inventoried with all other parts and instructions. Many of the Pyro kits came from Eagle (then Eaglewall) molds in England. Eaglewall went out of business around 1962 and Pyro acquired at least some of the molds. Pyro reissued some of these kits in the mid 1960s with AJ Rudisill artwork. Evidently the line was successful, as Pyro then cut some of their own molds and expanded the series significantly. The earlier issues have the full color artwork and a three digit part number. Later issues have a 'B' or 'C' in front of the three digit kit number; some have simplified box art that is a modification of the original Rudisill paintings by painting out most of the background. Pyro issued these kits into the late 1960 when Life-Like took over the molds. Some were reissued by Life-Like.

Before the 1950s 'model building' never made the top 10 list of boy's activities. Hobbies were nothing new to America in the 1930s/40s, but they were not mainstream. Shortly after the turn of the century, many dedicated modelers built flying or static airplanes, ship, train, automotive or other subjects. Basic kits existed, but the majority of these models were built from scratch, which demanded a high talent level developed from years of experience. That changed in the early 1950s. The phenomenon of the Revell/Gowland & Gowland 'Highway Pioneers' car kits was a significant force in proving that model building as a hobby could have mass appeal, provided that the kits were easy enough to build and finish. These 1/32 scale vehicles could be built in an hour after dinner and looked much like the real car. The Highway Pioneers series lead to the production of other subjects in plastic and the effect was revolutionary. By the early 1960s, model building was the #1 past time of American boys.

Gowland & Gowland Golden Hind Shipyard Ships in Miniature

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc++

Sold

Rare, early, small scale ship kit from 1952. Very nicely detailed and molded, especially for that era. Includes sails, molded sea display base and clear sheet plastic with the delicately printed ratlines. The scale is not given, but the sea base measures 6.5"x2" and the ship is approximately 5 inches long. Includes beautiful color instructions with the ship history, illustrations of assembly, how to set the sails and photos for rigging. This kit has never been started and is still in the original 'krinkle' bag. The bag has typical splitting, so it has been placed inside a zip-lock bag so that no parts will be lost. Includes instructions. The box sides illustrates and names the 10 kits of this line. All were available in regular (such as this kit) or 'Ship In A Bottle' versions. the 'Bottle' was also available separately. The entire set consists of the Santa Maria 1492, Golden Hind 1588, Mayflower 1620, Bon Homme Richard 1779, SS Savannah 1819, The Flying Cloud 1849, Charles W. Morgan 1850, Gertrude L. Thebaud 1929, Frigate Constitution 1797 and US Revenue cutter 1849. It appears that Gowland & Gowland has not received the credit that it deserves in the plastic kit revolution that took America by storm in the early 1950s. Gowland developed the first all plastic car made in the USA in 1950, the 1911 Maxwell. Even more interesting is that Kevin and Jack Gowland developed the 'Highway Pioneers' in 1951 which heralded the future for the American Hobby Industry. The reason that Gowland's name is not in the fore-front of model history is that Precision Specialties (later Revell) did the distribution for Gowland.
