Otaki Boeing 727 JAL Tone, 1/220

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed Good

Sold

Still factory sealed but the seal has drawn the box top concave. Very rare first issue from the early 1960s; note the old logo and there is no part number. The model represents an early 'short' -100 and features very fine raised detail, full landing gear, a display stand and stunning early JAL full color decals just like the box art aircraft. This was back when airlines would name aircraft, and this one is 'Tone,' which is a river in Japan. Otaki was started by Mr. Masaru Otaki in 1960, which is the same year that Tamiya went into business. Early Otaki kits have this unique logo and no part number; many are so rare that they are not documented yet. Otaki was only around for two decades, going out of business in 1980 due to financial difficulties.

The instructions list it as an A-4A, which it may well be. The kit has never been started. Inside, it is factory-fresh with all parts still sealed in the original clear bag with the decals and with instructions in great condition. Even the original tube of glue is included. Please note, this kit is normally listed as 1/72, so I have listed it as such. By the wingspan, it is 1/78 scale.

Lindberg Motorized P.T. Boat - (PT Boat / Patrol Boat), 1/60, 701M-249

Rare 1950 hardbox motorized issue with fantastic Ray Gaedke artwork. Very large and nicely detailed kit for that time featuring an electric motor, battery holder, contacts and three-prop drive, adjustable rudders, complete deck fittings, detailed guns and torpedo tubes, deck crew, decals, flag sheet and more. Could be converted to R/C operation if you wished. Molded in gloss gray plastic. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals, flag sheet and instructions. This kit has a fascinating history. It was originally produced by Varney in 1944 as a multi-media model. It was novel at the time as it had a wooden hull and cardstock deck but all injection molded tenite deck parts and details. That made it one of the first US ship kits to have extensive injection molded parts. But the world was not ready for this type of kit and dealers were hesitant to carry it - which resulted in low sales. Gorden Varney sold the molds for the kit to O-lin (Olsen and Lindberg). O-Lin reworked the kit using a vacuform hull, cardstock and tenite parts. When Lindberg took full control of O-lin, he went to an injection molded hull, colorful cardstock 'wood' deck and all polystyrene parts for the first Lindberg issue. The second issue was all plastic with the metal stanchions and hand rails but the round Lindberg logo. The third Lindberg issue has the square logo and is motorized and the stanchions are plastic. This kit has a factory-built motor; some later ones came with a kit motor that you had to assemble. Lindberg had a seemingly endless amount of minor variations to this box design while retaining the same art. At least three of the variations center around the announcement that it is "MOTORIZED."
