AMT 1964 Ford Thunderbird 2 Door Hardtop Promo With Original Box, 1/25

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

Sold

Very rare promotional in superb condition and includes the original box. The box is stamped "T-BIRD - HT RANGOON RED" on the bottom. The model was obtained on March 1, 1965 by a discriminating adult collector in Lexington KY. The promo has never even been displayed - it has been in the box wrapped with factory tissue since it left the factory. The color and gloss are factory new, but there are some box scuffs on the roof. The chrome is 'near mint.' There is no body warp and the clear is in 'excellent++' condition. I would grade this one 9 out of 10 with 10 flawless. The deduction is for the roof scuffs. The original box is complete and 'good+' with general age spotting.

Aurora Cessna T-37 (Model 318 Tweet), 1/43, 138

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

Sold

Dated 1962. This is the Aurora Europe issue with full size English USA instructions and supplementary instruction sheet in several Western languages. Features good cockpit with pilots, control sticks, instrument panel and dual throttle quadrants, two piece clear canopy, full landing gear and display stand. Molded in light gray and clear. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. NOTE: as with many of these kits, the short nose probe is broken off the fuselage and missing. It is very easily made from pulled sprue. Also, the box displays much better than the 'good' grade but is ranked as such because there is a litho tape pull on the lower long side and a small price tag pull on the right short side.

Airfix DH Comet 4B Dan-Air - Classic Airliners Special Edition, 1/144, 04176

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed NM

Sold

Still factory sealed. From 1994. Nice 1/144 scale kit of the world's first jet airliner. The initial Comet I was in operation long before the 707, which gave the British an incredible post-war lead in the expanding civil aviation market. Just as the Comet was flying high and orders were pouring in from around the world, Comets began to mysteriously fall out of the sky. Everything from lighting to terrorist bombs were blamed. For months the root cause went undiscovered. Then, in a landmark investigation that is considered the first modern post-crash autopsy, it was discovered that the stresses around a small ADF window on the top of the fuselage were causing metal fatigue failure when the fuselage was pressurized. To confirm this, a Comet I was placed in a water tank and subjected to pressurization stresses. After some time, a dramatic failure occurred. Then parts of a crashed Comet were pulled from underwater proving once and for all that this was the root cause.
