Very rare joint Lindberg-Necomisa issue that was made in Mexico; Lindberg shipped the molds to Necomisa in the 1970s and the kits were made in Mexico. The model is originally from the early 1960s and the original Ray Gaedke artwork was wisely retained. The original molds were cut by Trim Model Products in the early to mid 1950s. Trim sold them in bags or in hardboxes, then sold the molds to Lindberg in the early 1960s. I have never seen a post-70s USA issue of this kit, so perhaps the molds remained in Mexico. Inside, the kit has never been started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes decals and the instructions are on the back of the box along with a Necomisa full-color trading card for this aircraft.

The Chapayev class (Project 68) were a group of cruisers built for the Soviet Navy during and after World War II. Seventeen ships were planned but only seven were actually started before the German invasion. Three incomplete ships were destroyed when their building yard in Nikolaev was captured by Nazi Germany and the remaining five cruisers were only completed in 1950.The design was based on the Kirov class cruiser, but with significant changes in armament with 4 triple 152 mm gun turrets replacing 3 triple 180 mm gun turrets. The 152mm B38 guns guns fired a 55 kg shell to 24,000m. The rate of fire was 6 to 7 rounds per minute. The guns were mounted in individual cradles with separate elevation. The secondary armament consisted of 100mm CM-5 guns in twin enclosed powered turrets with a rate of fire of 15-18 rounds per minute. The light AA guns consisted of 37mm weapons. The hull was enlarged protection was improved compared to the Kirov class. The machinery was based on a unit system with alternating boiler rooms and engine rooms. The five ships were completed after the war to a modified design (Project 68K). The aircraft facilities and torpedo tubes were removed and radar and improved anti-aircraft artillery added in teh form of 37mm guns in twin powered and water cooled mountings.

1964 issue of Aurora's 'Super Detailed Museum Model with Plated Parts.' Done in a big 1/16 scale, this kit and the other 'Old Timers' in the series represented a significant leap forward in quality for Aurora. This kit features full engine, transaxle and driveline detail, complete interior, suspension and steering linkage, exhaust and more. Molded in red, black and with brass plated parts and real white rubber tires. Never started. The parts have been inventoried 100% complete and includes instructions. Aurora was renowned for turning a profit and for keeping expenses down. In researching new kit subjects, they came upon a forgotten jewel - the Hudson Miniatures line of 1/16 scale wooden kits. Hudson had discontinued this line due to lack of sales of wooden kits. But the Hudson models were second to none in quality, research and documentation. Aurora was quick to realize this and used the research and layout from these kits to create the subjects for this 'Old Timers' series. It is fortunate for us that they did, because in most cases this is the only injection molded kit of these rare and classic early automobiles.

1978 issue after Aurora went out of business and Monogram bought their molds. Monogram only reissued Aurora's best and most commercially viable kits and the 727 was one of the few that made the cut. In this case, they saw the molds could be improve, and the result is a much better & accurate kit and the best 'short' body 727 available in near 1/100 scale. Monogram added a network of very fine raised panel lines to the fuselage (the original had no panel lines), filled the deep e-doors over the wings and made them fine raised also, added wing fences & fine raised panel lines to the wings, added flap hinges to the wing undersides and added fine raised panel lines to the horizontal stabilizers. Monogram was evidently proud of the improvement, illustrating them on the assembly drawings. With full landing gear. Contains excellent TWA full stripes and window decals. This kit has not been started. The parts are still in the factory sealed bag. Includes decals and instructions.
