Plastic Model Kit, Box Condition: Exc
$65
1970s issue from the original high-quality Pyro molds. The Monitor is 10 inches long and the Merrimac is 11 inches long when built. These models are considered superior to the Lindberg kits in detail and accuracy. They features full hulls, propeller & rudder detail, separately molded cannon & deck fittings, flags, ventilators and more. Never started. Both have been inventoried 100% complete with all parts and includes instructions. The Monitor and Merrimac are the two American Civil War ships that spelled the end of the wooden ship age. In March of 1862, the Merrimac put to sea to raise the Union Blockade off the St. James. There she sank the Cumberland and Congress. The Monitor, the Union's only ironclad and the first turret ship, was rushed to the scene. The epic battle between the two iron-clad ships ended in a draw, with the Merrimac suffering a little more damage than the Monitor. The Merrimac was blown up to avoid capture; the Monitor sank in a gale in 1862.

Wood Model Kit, Box Condition: Good
$69
Superb kit from the 1950s and makes a very impressive display when built. This highly prefabricated model is made from solid Western Pine (not balsa wood) and features completely precarved fuselage, wings, engine nacelles & tail feathers, ready to install propellers, full landing gear and even wood filler, glue, and sandpaper. With detailed instructions and drawings with aircraft history and a large, colorful American Airlines decal sheet. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts & paperwork present; even includes sealed envelopes of powdered wood glue and wood filler. NOTE: the instructions are quality photocopies; the originals are missing. There is no assembly but NOTE: there has been very neat, adult-quality sanding done to the vertical stabilizer, which means that the sandpaper and sanding stick have also been used. There is nothing else sanded and nothing assembled. Before plastic kits were introduced, Strombecker was famous as the premier hardwood preshaped model manufacturer. In the 1940s and 1950s, Strombecker kits were flawlessly engineered but not inexpensive. All wooden parts are hardwood and are precarved to shape - usually only a quick sanding would finish them.

Rare first issue from 1956 with Jim Cox 'ground scene' artwork and the 1956-only Northern Lights rectangular logo.
