Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: NM

A3J Vigilante - 'S' Issue - A-5A Nuclear Bomber

$179

Rare model from 1959 and the last "S" kit issued by Revell. The box top is in investment-grade 'near mint' condition. It has fantastic color and gloss, four solid corners, no fading or stains and no price tags or tag marks. There is not any tape or tape residue on the two long sides, which is rare. Flaws include isolated very light shelf wear at the upper left and some very light edge wear on the vertical sides. This model features opening tandem canopies, moving control surfaces, detailed, removable jet engines and two pilots. As the last "S" kit, this kit also incorporated a critical improvement for the time that would become standard only recently: all recessed detail. The entire kit has recessed panel lines and rivet detail- no raised marks. It has an attention to detail that is lacking in many older Pre-S and S kits. Molded in the correct gloss light gray and clear with the "Globe" clear stand. Never started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions.

Hawk Convair 240 / Convair 340 - Convair-Liner Civil Transport, 1/126, 704

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Excellent+++

Convair 240 / Convair 340 - Convair-Liner Civil Transport

$225

Very rare early injection molded kit and the only civil release of this famous model. This kit was first issued in 1952, so it was made at the same time that the Gowland & Gowland 'Highway Pioneers' were released. It was produced in this box up until the late 1950s. This model is molded in the correct glossy gray plastic with a unique early clear stand with 'CONVAIR' on the base. The box is in amazing 'Excellent+++' condition. These boxes were very fragile and the only reason this one survived is that I purchased it from the original owner, who has been a long-time collector. The kit has never been started. All parts have been inventoried 100% complete and includes the 'Convair-Liner' decals and instructions. This is a one-owner kit from a recent collection, and he was given this kit as a gift in early 1950s. Hawk was a producer of wooden kits (with metal or plastic details) before and after WWII, and was one of the handful of manufacturers to produce such kits (known as 'solids') in a consistent 1/48 scale. Hawk made aircraft, ship and train models in this fashion. The very first injection molded aircraft kits in the United States may have been made by Varney in 1946, but Hawk was always an innovative and quality-driven company, and they took a gamble on injection molded kits well before they were popular. As early as 1946 they may have issued the 1/48 Curtiss R3C-1 with wheels and in 1948 the 'Evolution of the Jet' gift set. In 1949, they issued several kits - the Supermarine S6B, Gee-Bee, Howard Ike, F-84G and the Constellation. In 1952, the Mig-15, Convair-Liner & others were released in plastic. As with the previous kits, this is in the Hawk two-tone one-piece flip box. These boxes were notoriously fragile and Hawk quickly discontinued their use, going to the cardboard 'hardbox' with a colorful, glued on lithograph sheet, known to the trade as a 'slick.'

Hawk Lockheed Constellation L-749 - One Piece 1948 Box Issue, 1/140, 702

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc+

Lockheed Constellation L-749 - One Piece 1948 Box Issue

$175

Very rare and much more so in an 'Excellent+' condition box. This kit is from 1949, and even predates the Gowland & Gowland 'Highway Pioneers' that started the plastic model craze in the United States. This model is molded in the correct glossy medium gray with a unique early stand. The model was issued with instructions but did not come with decals. The instructions tell you that '...the plane is molded in the proper base color, and if you intend to paint your favorite air-line markings be sure to use good enamel (not lacquer). The kit has never been started. The contents are as they left the factory. They have been inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions present. Hawk was a producer of wooden kits (often with plastic & metal details) before and after WWII and was one of the handful of manufacturers to produce such kits (known as 'solids') in a consistent 1/48 scale. Hawk made aircraft, ship and train models in this fashion. The very first injection molded aircraft kits in the United States were made by Varney or Hawk in 1946, but they did not catch on quickly. Hawk was always an innovative and quality-driven company, and they took a gamble on injection molded kit well before they were popular. As early as 1946 they issued the 1/48 Curtiss R3C-1 with wheels. Like Varney's Fleet Sub and PT-17, they were shunned by hobby dealers. Hawk persisted with the 'Evolution of the Jet' gift set in 1948 and issued several kits - the Supermarine S6B, Gee-Bee, Howard Ike, Laird (all in acetate) and the F-84G and this Constellation (both in polystyrene). All were in the two-tone one-piece box like this Constellation model.

Revell Nuclear Powered Polaris Submarine With Full Interior - George Washington Class SSBM - Master Modelers Club Issue, 1/261, H425-249

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+

Nuclear Powered Polaris Submarine With Full Interior - George Washington Class SSBM - Master Modelers Club Issue

The box is in 'Very Good+' condition and the kit is unusually complete down to the Master Modelers Club Trading Stamp (of this kit), Revell 1962 Miniature (1/25) Catalog and even the 'Submarine Development' booklet. This kit caused a real issue with the Navy who was shocked that Revell had been able to issue such an accurate model. It was highly detailed for that time will full interior, removable starboard hull half and two Polaris missiles that 'fire' using spring power. Includes a display stand and a large decal sheet which has markings for SSB(N)600 Theodore Roosevelt, SSB(N)601 Robert E Lee, SSB(N)602 Abraham Lincoln, SSB(N)558 George Washington and SSB(N)559 Patrick Henry. Revell Cutty Sark Clipper Ship - 3 Feet Long, 1/96, H364-995

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+++

Cutty Sark Clipper Ship - 3 Feet Long

$250

Rare true first issue of this kit dated 1959 and in exceptional condition inside and out. Large and highly detailed she measures 36 inches long when assembled. The box is not perfect but is among the better that I have ever seen. It has excellent color and gloss, zero price tags, no fading and no tape or tape marks other than the factory sealing tape. There is light general wear, the stain just above the 'Y' on the box top, a factory tape litho pull (1.25" x .5") on the top long side and 2 partially split corners. Amazingly, this kit is still the 'standard' that other large-scale plastic sailing ships models are measured by. Since this is the first issue, the model has the factory painted copper hull below the waterline. The factory paint is in amazing 'near mint' condition. Since this is a first edition it also contains the booklet about the Cutty Sark. Features highly detailed deck, deck houses, cargo holds and removable covers, masts, yards and booms, bilge pump, windlass, 20 crew figure, lifeboats with oars, life preservers, anchors and anchor chains. Includes draftline and transom decals, figurehead, finely detailed hull, preformed ratlines and molded deadeyes, pin rails and blocks, full standing rigging instructions & diagrams, two thicknesses each of cotton cord for running & standing rigging and metal chain. Molded in three colors - black, ivory/white and dark swirl wood tan. The kit has never been started. Beside the hull, all parts are in the rare factory internal box which is almost never present. Even the original factory packing tissue is present. Inventoried with all parts, 'excellent++' condition decals, instructions and rigging plans present. Just an item of interest - if you have built this amazing kit, you know that often some of the incredibly fine parts are broken in shipment from the Revell factory. Well, that happened to this the original owner and he wrote Revell; and they sent him replacements! They are still in the original 'Revell' shipping box which cost 3 cents to mail. The parts are still inside in the factory bag. This kit must be shipped insured.
