Rare true first issue in investment-grade 'Near Mint' condition. This is the 'short' 1.25" high pre-'S' hardbox issue (vs. the later standard size 1.4" high box). This kit has the correct, short-lived 1st issue 2 piece stand as opposed to the later 4 piece stand. The stand with this kit has a base and an arm with three prongs. This stand was discontinued shortly after introduction as it broke very easily. The model is molded in the correct gloss silver and clear plastic. Inside, the kit is in excellent condition. It has never been started. All of the parts have been inventoried complete and it includes the decals and instructions. The instructions are the correct early version that show the 3-prong stand arm. The instructions are in 'excellent++' condition with typical yellowing as the only noticeable flaw. The decals are the correct early version by 'Colortone' and are in excellent condition. Typical yellowing and very slight edge curling are the only flaws. The box has great color and gloss, four solid & original corners, no fading, rips or tears, no missing litho and no tape - this box even missed the factory taping machine! Flaws include slight discoloring on the left as shown and very light, isolated edge wear. The original Bullock's Los Angeles price tag is on the left short side and inside is the original (and elaborate) Bullock's hand-written receipt.

Rare first issue of the popular WWII Jeep in the 1957 short box. The box is in beautiful 'Excellent++' condition; it displays better than that, but is graded as such because there is some very light discoloration on the right short side and tape marks at the center of the two long sides. The model features hinged windshield, rolling wheels, rubber tires, driver, two combat troops and detailed M3-37mm field gun. Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions present. This incredibly popular model was Monogram's 21st plastic model kit and has a long history. The first issue (this model) was made in 1957 from all new molds; it was issued in the 'short' box with 'Four Star Plastikit' within the Monogram logo at the upper left. It was a natural choice to include this model in part number MGP1-498, the incredibly rare 'Military Wheels Gift Set' which included Jeep & Gun, Weasel, Half Track and Eager Beaver Truck. The second Jeep issue, which is the rarest of them all, is in the same short box but the only difference is that 'Four Star Plastikit' is replaced by 'The Name For Quality Hobby Kits.' This release is probably from part of 1958. The third issues again has the same part number, the 'Quality Hobby Kits' text but is in a 'long' box that adds bout 3 inches to the length. This was issued until 1966 when Monogram changed to the 'Green' boxes for armor and new part numbers; the Jeep got PM153-100. In the late 1960s, Monogram kept the same artwork but gave the text on the box a facelift with the change to the new, four-digit part number system - this kit received 6864. In 1972 Monogram again re-imaged all of the kits with the famous 'White Box' that featured photographs of the build up models since builders were demanding more realism. The Jeep's first White Box was in 1972, numbered 8211 and in a slightly larger rectangular box. The 1975 White Box shared the same part number but had a slight box top layout change. At this time, it was also made part of the Young Model Builders club kit and sent in a plain cardboard box with a lithograph slick stuck to the bakc. Since this kit continued to sell so well, it was kept in the line up and in 1982 it appears in the new 'Blue Box' design with the number 6302. But even that was not the end! In 1998, Revell (who had purchased the Monogram molds), reissued the kit with a military truck all in one box.

Swift Boats were shallow-draft, high-speed boats of all aluminum construction and powered by a matched pair of V-12 Detroit Diesels. Their primary function in Viet Nam was coastal surveillance. They were equipped with radar, radio and several searchlights, along with bunks, refrigerator, stove and head. They were capable of 25 knots and required only 4 feet of water to operate in. In some operations Swifts teamed up with Destroyer Escorts (DEs) thus extending their rand and capabilities using the DEs as mobile bases carrying spare crew, fuel and other supplies for the Swifts. In this way the Swifts could operate in coastal waters too shallow for the larger vessels then run in for a pit stop, ready to charge again with a fresh crew, fuel and supplies. Monogram designed this kit from official information and drawings from Sewart Seacraft, Inc and the US navy.
