This was issued after the "S" and right before the 'Commander Series' issue This large-scale, full-hull model is very well detailed for that time and features full hull complete propeller & rudder detail, torpedo tubes, 3", 20mm and 40mm guns, gun directors, detailed superstructure, stanchion for railings (use thread for horizontal rails), depth changes, forward rocket launchers, ships boats and davits, life rafts, radar and more. Very rare and even rarer in complete condition. This is the 1959 first and only issue of this classic Monogram models and certainly one of the 'Holy Grail' for the manufacturer. The model features 18 aircraft (102 parts total), all to a constant 1/240 scale. All aircraft have an in-flight configuration accurate down to the upward-swept wing angle on the B-52. The display is made complete with all aircraft riding on 'Flight Wires' that rise from the special blue stand. The large decal sheet is in amazing 'Near Mint+' condition. It is flat and 100% intact with no visible micro-cracking and no yellowing. The instructions and Air Power book are both in 'Excellent+++' condition with light yellowing as the only significant flaw. The kit has never been started; there is no assembly. The flight wires are still in the factory sealed clear bag. The plastic parts have been inventoried 100% complete. The box is rated 'Good'. It has 'excellent' color and gloss, four solid original corners, no repairs, no price tag or tag marks and no tears. Wear includes many lithograph missing 'chips' as shown; these are due to bug damage. These chips are on the box sides also but there are slightly fewer than on the top. There is one very light crease about 1 inch long at the lower left corner. This kit must be shipped with postal insurance and double-boxed.

Very rare. From 1952 or '53. This is one of (if not) Revell's first gift set. It is Gowland-produced with no part number. Gowland designed and molded these kits as well as providing the box artwork (signed D.K. Gowland) and instructions - Revell did the marketing. Inside, the kit is correct with all cardboard dividers, all small parts still in the correct wax paper bags, cars molded in red, black, dark blue and green, tires molded in black and correct instructions. The models have never been started. Four kits are still factory sealed in the original krinkle bags. One kit, the 1903 Cadillac is in the krinkle bag but the bag has split, as they often do. I have inventoried this kit and it is 100% complete with all parts and instructions present. Before the 1950s 'model building' never made the top 10 list of boy's activities. Hobbies were nothing new to America in the 1930s/40s, but they were not mainstream. By the late 1910 and early '20s, many dedicated modelers were building flying or static airplanes, ship, train, automotive or other subjects. Basic kits existed, but the majority of these models were built from scratch, which demanded a high talent level developed from years of experience. By the 1930s, the 'Aviation Craze" had taken hold of this country and kits appeared everywhere. However, it was estimated at the time that at least 80% of these were never sucessfully completed (and fewer than that flown). That changed in the early 1950s with the advent of plastics and affordable injection molding equipement. The phenomenon of the all-plastic Revell/Gowland & Gowland 'Highway Pioneers' car kits was a significant force in proving that model building as a hobby could have mass appeal, provided that the kits were easy enough to build and finish. These 1/32 scale vehicles were completely molded to shape in color and could be built in an hour after dinner. When complete, they looked much like the real car. The Highway Pioneers series lead to the production of other subjects in plastic and the effect was revolutionary. By the early 1960s, model building was the #1 past time of American boys...and adult males as well!

Very rare and one of only two 1/700 scale models made of this legendary WWII British ship. This waterline model features high-definition resin cast hull & details, numerous PE parts, brass barrels by Master and more. Never started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes instructions. HMS Sheffield was the third of ten Town-class light cruisers of the Royal Navy. The ship was laid down in January 1936, launched in July 1936, and commissioned in August 1937. She was active in all major naval European theatres of the Second World War, in the Atlantic Ocean, the Mediterranean Sea and the Arctic Ocean.Her career started with service in the Home Fleet, which took her on patrols against German blockade runners and on actions during the Norwegian Campaign. In August 1940 Sheffield was transferred to Force H stationed in Gibraltar. During her service with Force H, most of the operations involved either ferrying aircraft or escorting convoys to Malta. Sheffield also operated against German surface raiders in the Atlantic, taking part in the chase for the German battleship Bismarck. On 26 May 1941, she directed torpedo bombers from the aircraft carrier Ark Royal to Bismarck, but took no part in the actual sinking of Bismarck one day later.In January 1942, Sheffield was assigned to the escort of Arctic convoys to Northern Russia. But in March she was damaged by a mine and needed four months repair. In September Sheffield went back to the Arctic, but in October Arctic convoys were suspended in preparation for Operation Torch. Sheffield participated in Operation Torch as part of the Eastern Task Force, which covered the landings at Algiers. Arctic convoys resumed in December 1942 and Sheffield went back to the Arctic. In the same month, she was part of a cruiser force that repelled a German attack on Convoy JW 51B in the Battle of the Barents Sea. Sheffield damaged the German heavy cruiser Admiral Hipper and sank the destroyer Friedrich Eckoldt. In March 1943 Arctic convoys were suspended once more, this time because of the threat of the German surface fleet stationed in Norway. Sheffield moved again to the Mediterranean and took part in Operation Avalanche. When the threat of the German surface fleet was much reduced by the disabling of the German battleship Tirpitz in September, Arctic convoys were resumed in November. In December 1943 during the Battle of the North Cape, Sheffield assisted in the sinking of the German battleship Scharnhorst whilst escorting convoy Convoy JW 55B.Sheffield went in for an extended refit in 1944 and saw no more service during the war. She was placed in reserve for a first time in 1959, and after a short reactivation Sheffield was decommissioned in 1964 and finally scrapped in 1967.
