Plastic Model Kit, Box Condition: Excellent+++
$225
Very rare early injection molded kit and the only civil release of this famous model. This kit was first issued in 1952, so it was made at the same time that the Gowland & Gowland 'Highway Pioneers' were released. It was produced in this box up until the late 1950s. This model is molded in the correct glossy gray plastic with a unique early clear stand with 'CONVAIR' on the base. The box is in amazing 'Excellent+++' condition. These boxes were very fragile and the only reason this one survived is that I purchased it from the original owner, who has been a long-time collector. The kit has never been started. All parts have been inventoried 100% complete and includes the 'Convair-Liner' decals and instructions. This is a one-owner kit from a recent collection, and he was given this kit as a gift in early 1950s. Hawk was a producer of wooden kits (with metal or plastic details) before and after WWII, and was one of the handful of manufacturers to produce such kits (known as 'solids') in a consistent 1/48 scale. Hawk made aircraft, ship and train models in this fashion. The very first injection molded aircraft kits in the United States may have been made by Varney in 1946, but Hawk was always an innovative and quality-driven company, and they took a gamble on injection molded kits well before they were popular. As early as 1946 they may have issued the 1/48 Curtiss R3C-1 with wheels and in 1948 the 'Evolution of the Jet' gift set. In 1949, they issued several kits - the Supermarine S6B, Gee-Bee, Howard Ike, F-84G and the Constellation. In 1952, the Mig-15, Convair-Liner & others were released in plastic. As with the previous kits, this is in the Hawk two-tone one-piece flip box. These boxes were notoriously fragile and Hawk quickly discontinued their use, going to the cardboard 'hardbox' with a colorful, glued on lithograph sheet, known to the trade as a 'slick.'

On this website are two articles that fully explain how to save or reproduce older decals; please read read these before using any older model kit or aftermarket decals. First release 1953 hardbox pre 'S' kit and the first ship model that Revell cut their own molds for. Earlier Revell ship releases were very small scale sailing shps from ex-Gowland and Gowland molds. It has been said that this kit was so popular for so long that it was Revell's best selling ship model of all time. Inside, the kit is molded in the correct gloss medium gray plastic. It has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete including all parts, the original small parts 'krinkle' bag (torn open), flag sheet and instructions. The early style flag sheet is in amazing 'near mint' condition and the instructions are the correct very large format for this issue and in 'excellent' condition. Please note that Revell did not furnish decals with this issue.

Rare first issue hardbox from 1958. Not the 1990s reissue. Molded in the correct gloss gray and white. Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions present. The decals and instructions are both flat and in 'excellent+' condition. The actual top of the box (the section shown in the photo) is in 'near mint+' condition; however, the overall box is graded 'excellent++' because there there is residue from two short pieces of non-factory tape at the center of both long sides and edge wear on the lower side edges.

Very rare kit for the advanced collector. In the early 1950s Best Hobby Kits (Best Plastic Corporation of Brooklyn, NY) entered the infant USA plastic model kit market with a series of Indianapolis 500 winners. Six kits were issued - the 1920 Monroe Special, 1922 Murphy Special, 1931 Miller Special, 1935 Gilmore Special, 1940 Maserati Racer and 1953 Fuel Injection Special. The kits were priced correctly and featured 'Super Detailed' parts (for the time). It is unknown why the line failed to sell - it may have been distribution. Best was certainly not a large player in the business. The kit features real rubber Firestone racing tires, decals and some interior detail. The kit has not been started. All parts are still in the original 'krinkle' bag. Complete with decals and instructions.

Very rare in this condition. This is a rare opportunity to own one of these engines exactly as it left the Cox factory. The engine is still factory tape sealed and even includes the nearly impossible to find Cox cardboard sleeve with the part number stamped on the front. Not a kit, but a factory built engine that is NOS - never run and mint. The Golden Bee features an oversize fuel tank with cross vent and filler tubes for 'Longer Flight and Easier Stunting' as one side of the box says. The sleeve is 100% intact has some bug damage on the top as shown and significantly more bug damage on the sides and bottom. There are no holes, only surface damage.
