Before plastic kits were introduced, Strombecker was famous as the premier hardwood preshaped model manufacture. In the 1940s and 1950s, Strombecker kits were flawlessly engineered but not inexpensive. All wooden parts are hardwood and are pre-carved to shape - usually only a quick sanding would finish them.

$10

Still factory sealed. These decals are 'mint' condition and have always been stored in a climate controlled residence. Includes paint and markings guide. On this website are two articles that fully explain how to save or reproduce older decals; please read read these before using any older model kit or aftermarket decals. To save on or eliminate shipping for decals, please order them with model kits or order enough of them to make boxing worth while. USPS clearly states that any flexible envelope will be bent 90 degrees or more within 2 inches, so I cannot send decals in a flexible envelope. A decal reinforced with cardboard will be greater than 1/4" thick, which USPS says must go as a normal box. There is no choice; because I will not send decals to their probable destruction, shipping in a box is the only option.

UPC F-86D Sabre Dog - (ex Marusan), 1/50, 5051-100

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

F-86D Sabre Dog - (ex Marusan)

$65

Early 1970s issue with Scott Eidson hardbox artwork. The Marusan F-86D model is known for an amazing array of action features and accessories, and the UPC reissue includes them all. This model has removable radome to display the radar, opening canopy, removable tail section with dolly and detailed jet engine with engine stand, operating leading edge slats, operating wing flaps, moving control surfaces, retracting landing gear, retracting/extending missile tray, boarding ladder, and extra missiles with missile cart. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried and the actual aircraft is complete, but NOTE: missing the base for one ground figure. Otherwise complete with all other parts and includes decals and instructions. This is at least the third edition of this UPC kit as the first one had a rather graphic error - it pictured F-86 Saberjets on the box - NOT the F-86D 'Dog version. UPC stood for Universal Powermaster Corporation which was based out of New York City, NY. UPC did not cut their own molds, but bought kits already molded from other manufacturers and re-boxed the kits in the USA. Scott Eidson, the famous artist best known for his artwork with Revell, also did UPC box art in the 1960s. All UPC production ended in the 1970s.

I inquired about sending decals via "Media Mail" as the looks like the perfect solution; however, the US Post Master specifically called out decals as not being Media mail and prohibiting using it in that way. Yes, some businesses do anyway but it is against regulations. I have a great relationship with USPS and I will not endanger it.

Amodel Miasischev M-50A Bounder - Supersonic Soviet Bomber, 1/72, 72016

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

Miasischev M-50A Bounder - Supersonic Soviet Bomber

$250

Rare and the only 1/72 scale injection-molded kit ever made of this giant Russian Supersonic Bomber. Never started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes decals and instructions. From the website nuke.fas.org comes this descriptions: OKB Myasishchyev began working on the supersonic intercontinental bomber M-50 in 1956. The aircraft was intended to be equipped with and the supersonic long-range M-61 cruise missile, also developed by OKB Myasishchyev. The bomber had a strategic strike capability due to its range of 10,000 km plus the 1000 km range of the missile. The M-50 had forward trailing triangular wings, a wing span of 35.1 meters and a length of 57.5 meters. Powered by four "16-17" engines developed by P.F. Zubets, two engine pods were mounted outboard on the wings and two less powerful engines at the tip of the wings. The prototype was constructed in 1959 and made the first flight on 27 October 1959. As engines the which were supposed to equip the airplane were at that time not yet available, on the prototype version two VD-7 engines and two VD-7g were used. In this configuration the demonstrated a speed of Mach 0.99. The second M-50, designated the M-52, carried the Zubets engines around which the aircraft had been designed. The engine installation was modified, and a second tailplane was added to the top of the fin. In December 1960, N. S. Khruschev, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU) made a speech at the Supreme Soviet session in which he proclaimed the inexpedience of the further development of military aircraft. The Soviet leader, fascinated by the triumph of Russian space technology and exploration, directed that all the tasks formerly executed by the combat aircraft be performed by guided missiles of various types. The Council of Ministers and the CPSU Central Committee issued a joint decree terminating work on new aircraft. The first victims of the decree were the Lavochkin and Myasischev aircraft design bureaus. They had to fully reorganize their work. V. Myasischev was appointed director of TsAGI. He was very disappointed at the fact that only a few of his M-50 and M-52 long-range supersonic bombers were produced. In 1960 development of the M-50 bomber was halted when OKB Myasishchyev was dis-established. Surprisingly little is known about the Bounder. One writer commented that it was "an outstanding failure which revealed an embarrassing lack of understanding of the problems of high-speed flight."
