The P-59 was the United States first operational Jet Aircraft. However, it was very underpowered and was not fit for combat. This problem was well known, even before the prototype flew. However, it gave the Air Force and General Electric invaluable experience in jet operation and domestic turbine engine development.

At long last, an injection molded model of this long-range Soviet interceptor. Well detailed with over 100 pieces, all recessed surface detail, very good cockpits, separately molded ailerons, trailing edge flaps, elevators & rudder, detailed landing gear, four K-80 missiles and more. Never started and inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. The giant Fiddler is still the world's largest fighter aircraft and was designed to range far and wide to hunt down B-52 bombers. The Soviet Union had such a large northern border that it could not be covered with the existing range surface-to-air missiles and the short-ranged fighters available. Instead of leaving large gaps unprotected, PVO opted for defending the entire front but loosely; the Fidder was the result of this policy. The original design for this task was the La-250, which was unsuccessful and Lavochkin's last aircraft. The lessons learned helped develop the Tu-128. The large fuel load was carried internally while all the missiles were carried on wing pylons. The AA-5 "Ash" was one of the most powerful air-to-air missiles at that time. The aircraft was first shown publicly in 1961. 198 were built and production ended in 1970. Fiddler was not a dogfighter or highly sophisticated but was reliable. The only 'combat' experienced by this type was in shooting down NATO reconnaissance balloons. Fiddler had a very long service life, being replace in 1990 by the much more capable Mig-31.

Softbox issue dated 1962 with great Bill Campbell box artwork. Very nicely molded kit for that time with excellent fit, fine recessed panel lines and raised rib lines. Inventoried and NOTE: the airplane is missing the prop retainer (easily made, does not show when assembled). The aircraft includes all other parts, decals and instructions but NOTE: missing display stand. The Laird Solution won the first official Thompson Trophy Race in 1930 at the Curtiss-Wright Reynolds Airport in Chicago. The Laird was the only Biplane to win the Thompson and it beat all the military aircraft. Charles 'Speed' Holman was the pilot and was the first civilian to attain a speed over 200 mph in a closed course event nationally. E. M. Laird Airplane Company built the aircraft for BF Goodrich. Construction began only 3 weeks before the race. There was only one 10 minute trial flight before the aircraft won the race.

Large scale Japan issue that is very well detailed. NOTE: this is a an excellent builder kit only because it has been neatly started and is missing a few parts; it is NOT in collectible condition. Please read carefully. NOTE: this kit has 'excellent' assembly and 'very good' painting done as follows: hull halves, catheads, 1/2 of the wheel housings, rudder & fantail window parts assembled & painted; steering platform 2/3 assembled & painted; stack halves assembled & painted; one paddle wheel 99% built; other paddle wheel only about 10% built; deck not built but neatly painted. NOTE: missing the following parts: figurehead; #136 brace on the bow (simple "C" shape; it holds down the bowsprit); #176 & 186 braces for topmasts (easily made; flat plastic with 2 holes in); #172 small deadeye and #21 & 22 forward fife rails. Otherwise inventoried with all other parts present and many of them are painted. Includes ratlines and instructions. The Great Western was the first ship specifically built for the Atlantic Ferry Service and was designed by I.K. Brunel (who designed the Great Eastern). When launched in 1837, she carried 120 first class, 20 second class, and beds could be set up for an additional 100 if needed. The crew was 60 men. The first crossing of the Atlantic Ocean was in April of 1838 and took just over 15 days. After crossing the Atlantic 64 times, she ran for 10 years between Southampton and the West Indies before being broken up in 1857.
