Very well molded vac kit with good surface details. Features injection molded struts, wheels and propellers, full size plans and decals. Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions. The Pe-8 was a famous and successful USSR heavy bomber that was designed in 1934 and first flown in 1936. Since the USSR did not have a definitive heavy bomber doctrine, only between 81 and 93 were built, but they lead active service lives. In use, the PE-8s performance matched Western Heavy Bombers designed during the same time. In August of 1941, PE-8s bombed Berlin. They were used to attack long range targets in German-held Eastern Europe, as well as for tactical support during the battles of Stalingrad and Kursk. It was a PE-8 that flew over German airspace between May 19th and June 13th in 1942 to deliver USSR Foreign Minister Molotov and his delegation from Moscow to London and then to Washington DC and back for talks on grand strategy against Nazi Germany. As a testament to the soundness of the design, PE-8s remained in service till the 1950s, even after the Tu-4 was available.

This is the 1986 issue which features 273 pieces, optional parts for either version, elevating guns, rotating turrets, some 'good' cockpit and interior detail, rotating propellers & wheels, movable rudder, elevators and ailerons, optional position bomb bay doors, bomb bay detail, bomb load, optional position undercarriage and more. Usually includes bomb carts & tractor but I cannot confirm that since it is factory sealed. With decals for two different aircraft. MG-K of 7th Sq served as a minelayer, bomber and one of the first units of the Pathfinder force, and EX-L of 199 Sq of No.3 Group which converted from Wellingtons in 1943 and performed bombing, minelaying and supply missions. In 1944 they flew with 100 Group on Radio Counter Measure (ECM) missions until 1945.

Very high quality kit with legendary LS attention to detail. The glossy box has excellent artwork. The kit is engineered for two electric motors; however, LS did not include them as they were sold separately. The batteries are held in a cleverly designed matching-scale fuel truck. Features all fine recessed panel lines, very good cockpit and crew station detail with crew, rotating turret with elevating gun, torpedo load with ground torpedo trolley, working bomb bay doors, working crew entry door, working slide-out style trailing edge wing flaps and ailerons, retractable main and tail landing gear with operating gear doors, rotating wheels & propellers, ground crew, wheel chocks and more.
