1970s reissue of the older kit. Features traditional wood/tissue construction, printwood and stripwood, , pre-formed wooden wheels, nose block, thrust button, prop shaft, tissue, propeller and detailed full size plans. The model has not been started. Inventoried complete. Comet was a famous manufacturer of stick and tissue flying and static models. In the 1930s Great Depression, they lead the low-priced kit revolution with the 'Dime Scale' kits and famous advertisements in Model Airplane News magazine and others. Comet reached it's peak in the 1930s when they acquired the services of Carl Goldberg. Goldberg was a highly accomplished modeler with articles in Model Airplane News and famous designs that won him several National level competitions in the 1930s and beyond. (Carl Goldberg went on to found his own company and produced well designed and popular free-flight and RC aircraft). Comet survived the post World War economic slump and continued kit production until they were bought out by long-time competitor Guillow's in 1998.

1969 original issue. Very large 1/24 scale. Well detailed kit of Major Yuri Gagarin's spacecraft. Features detachable crew compartment, ejection seat and Cosmonaut figure. Molded in metallic silver and clear and includes display stand. The kit has never been started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes instructions. Gagarin's flight was the first of 6 successful Vostok launches from the secret space center at Baikonur. Gagarin made one orbit in 108 minutes, which was enough to make him the first man in space. Titov followed in Vostok 2 and made 17 orbits. Other launches featured 4 mile passes in orbit, and Vostok 6 featured the first Woman Astronaut, Valentina Tereshkova. It is interesting that Vostok did not have attitude control for correct placement when re-entering the earth's atmosphere. The sphere was designed with the weight off-center, so it would automatically swing into position during the heat of reentry.
