Monogram F-51D Mustang - Action Model With Retracting Gear and Dropping Bombs - Blue Box Issue - (P-51), 1/32, PA77-200

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+

Sold

Classic, large-scale model is dated 1966; most likely the second issue. It is famous for it's excellent moldings, high detailed and for retaining scale fidelity. Features opening canopy to show the highly detailed cockpit, tiny levers under the wings drop 2 bombs, a small knob on the bottom rotates and extends and retracts the main gear and tail wheel; all gear doors including tail wheel open and close automatically with the gear. Not only do these features sound great, but they work. My built kit is over 40 years old and functions like new. Molded in silver, black and clear. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. The decals and instructions are both in 'near mint' condition. Both have very light yellowing. This kit has an interesting history. In 1961, Monogram introduced the 1/32 scale Phantom Mustang. This was a very ambitious project. The kit was transparent, highly detailed and included two electric motors. One motor raised and lowered the main gear and tail wheel while the other spun the prop. Two small levers on the base dropped bombs from the wings. It was molded in clear, silver, black, red and zinc chromate green. Although successful, the kit was expensive to produce and Monogram charged a hefty retail price of $4.98. As a way to create more revenue from the molds, Monogram cleverly created this kit - using some of the same molds as the Phantom Mustang. The silver parts tree was completely re-cut and does not match the Phantom version. The red stand, gears and motorizing features were simply left out and the model molded in solid colors. The gear retraction/extension features was retained, but not motorized. On the new silver parts tree they added a small knob (placed on the bottom of the wing) and the same for the bomb dropping mechanism. This lowered the price to $1.98 and this additional revenue hopefully helped pay down the original mold costs. In 1966 is was issues again in the Blue Box, which is the kit that is for sale here.

Monogram TWO A1-E Skyraider (A-1E) - Bagged LOT 1, 1/72, PA146

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: No Box

Sold

Includes TWO bagged kits - no box. The box is shown for reference only. These models came from the collection of one of Monogram's finest and talented Chief Designers, the man who created the original B-52 kit, B-17, B-24J, P-36A, P-39 Airacobra, P-61 Black Widow, DH Mosquito, at least one if not all of the 1/8 scale Ford cars, A-1E Skyraider and numerous other famous kits. SALE!! Includes two kits in the one box shown. Both models are never started and inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and one set of instructions present. The designer put in an additional crew member into each kit; this is because the A-1E is a two-seat aircraft but Monogram only put one pilot in with the kit. Obviously he was not happy about that! These kits feature cockpit, crew, drop tanks, rotating wheels and propeller, plenty of wing pylons for additional weapons and more.

Rare, out of production and still factory tape sealed. Very rare model of this large aircraft. Features all fine recessed surface detail, very good cockpit and much more. The box top says that the kit includes high definition cast resin parts, white metal parts, vacuformed canopies, decals and instructions. Ernst Heinkel's entry for the 'Amerika Bomber' program was fairly straightforward. It was based on the He-177 bomber, which was plagued with engine fires and other related coupled-engine problems forced upon it by the absurd directive that it had to be capable of delivering it's bombs in a dive. Free of this restriction. Heinkel moved to a conventional four engine configuration and redesigned the aircraft for long range flight and a payload of over 8,000 lbs of bombs. The first two prototypes were built in France, with the following examples to be built in Germany by Heinkel workers. However, Allied bombing delayed production and once Normandie was invaded, the writing was on the wall. The two prototypes, V-1 and V-1 were either completed or very near completion. The order went out to destroy them; but oddly enough, only the installed engines were destroyed. Once free of German occupation, it was quickly discovered that there were many of the correct engines laying about and both aircraft were completed, serving long and interesting careers with the French Air Force. They were not scrapped until 1954.
