Very rare 1940s wartime 'Spotter Model' in the 'National Defense Model Series.' Strombecker specifically made this line of 1/72 scale kits to fit the 'Official National Spotter or Recognition Program' for civilians and the armed forces for training and identification. This is a high quality, highly prefabricated kit of solid western pine hardwood. The parts are almost completely carved - only final sanding is needed! Includes perfectly carved and smooth fuselage, wings with airfoils in place, pre-cut horizontal and vertical stabilizers, detailed instructions, full size plans with gauges, full color insignia sheet including canopy, sand paper, sanding stick, original small parts envelope and two other envelopes - one with Strombecker wood filler and the other with Casco cement. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes color insignia and instructions. NOTE: the instructions have may closed splits along the fold lines. An order form at the lower left has been removed; the area removed is 4" x 2.5". It does not interfere with assembly. The box is missing two of the small inner flaps.

1985 issue as a tie-in with the famous movie. Very large 1/24 scale kit is over 19 inches long when built. Actually, this model is made from the same molds as the Phantom Huey kit from the late 1960s, except it is molded in color and excludes the non-relevant parts. The results is a wonderfully detailed kit with full interior, two pilots, full instrument panel and radios, detailed engine and transmission, opening cabin doors, and rotating main and tail rotors. Includes XM-16 armament subsystem with quad 7.62 mm machine guns with ammunition belts and two LAU 32A/A (Aero 60) rocket pods. Molded in olive drab, silver, flexible black and clear. The kit has never been started. The parts that were factory sealed are still in the sealed bags; the parts that were never sealed have been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions.

Still factory sealed but the seal has split on the underside and left short side. Dated 1971, but this is the softbox issue from later in the 1970s. The Dam Busters squadron was famous for its daring raids on three German dams on May 16, 1943. Carrying the special Barnes Wallis-designed bombs, the Lancasters flew very low over the water in the face of heavy flak to drop the rotating bombs perfectly. Many did not return. The bombs did perform as promised, first skipping over the water, hitting the dam, then rolling down 30 feet before exploding with tremendous force. In an air burst these bombs would not have never damaged the dams; but since water is incompressible, the dams were breached.
