Monogram Curtiss P-36A Test Shot - Bagged, 1/72, PA145

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

$36

This kit came from the collection of one of Monogram's finest and talented Chief Designers, the man who created the original B-52 kit, B-17, B-24J, P-36A, P-39 Airacobra, P-61 Black Widow, DH Mosquito, at least one if not all of the 1/8 scale Ford cars, A-1E Skyraider and numerous other famous kits. In his collection were boxes (usually Four-Star armor that had been damaged on the box-assembly machine) labeled 'TEST SHOTS' and some with his name on it. After designing the model, he was still responsible for the entire program, at least up to the point of mass production. Test Shots were made near the end of the design process for the Chief Designer of that kit to inspect; if something was wrong, he ordered changed. If not, he would clear the kit for production. This is one of those kits. Ever notice that all Monogram P-36A are always molded in silver? Well, not this time! This test shot is molded in brown and clear plastic and is a pre-first issue, probably 1966. It has never been started. The model is inventoried with all parts, decals and instruction present. The instructions and decal may have come with the test shot for his approval or they may have been added later. I have included them because they were in the same 'TEST SHOT' box as the kit.

Comet North American F-51 Mustang - 18 Inch Wingspan - Coke Bottle Issue - (P-51D), N8-29

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

$44

This model comes from the personal collection of one of Monogram's top Chief Designers. He designed and headed up the projects for the B-52, B-17, B-24J, Mosquito, Skyraider A-1E, Hurricane, Spitfire, P-40, at least one (if not all) of the 1/8 scale cars and many, many more. The actual kit is a 1950s/early 1960s stick-and-tissue flying model. Features quality balsa printwood, strip stock, formed wheels, covering material and full plans. The kit has never been started and is complete. The entire Comet 1950s "N" line included the following (gaps mean there is no kit, at least at that time): N1 Tiger Shark P-40, N2 F-86D Sabre Jet, N4 Globe Swift, N6 Taylorcraft, N8 F-51 Mustang, N9 Helicopter, N11 Ryan Navion, N12 Firefly, N15 Piper Cub, N16 Fokker DVII, N17 Spad, N24 Phantom Fury, N25 Aeronca K (floats) and N26 Stinson SR-7. Comet was a famous manufacturer of stick and tissue flying and static models. In the 1930s Great Depression, they lead the low-priced kit revolution with the "Dime Scale" kits and famous advertisements in Model Airplane News magazine and others. Comet reached it's peak in the 1930s when they acquired the services of Carl Goldberg. Goldberg was a highly accomplished modeler with articles in Model Airplane News and famous designs that won him several National level competitions in the 1930s and beyond. (Carl Goldberg went on to found his own company and produced well designed and popular free-flight and RC aircraft). Comet survived the post World War economic slump and continued kit production until they were bought out by long-time competitor Guillow's in 1998.

AV Models PSN-2 Parasite Torpedo Attack Glider - Used With DB-3 Mothership, 1/72, AV143

Resin Model Kit,   Box Condition: NM

$32

Rare. The PSN-2 was a glider floatplane designed to test the concept and guidance equipment for a range of guided glider bombs proposed by S.F. Valk in 1933. Constructed of wood, the PSN-2 was a sleek monoplane aircraft with two floats attached to the wing with struts, an open cockpit in the extreme nose of the fuselage and extra fins at the aft end of each float. In 1939-1940 the PSN-2 was built with a torpedo loadout. Although it could be towed, two were carried under the wings of the famous TB-3 and plans were to later use a DB-3 twin-engine bomber. Production of the first series of the PSN-2 started in Leningrad's plant No.23. The program was canceled unexpectedly in the summer of 1940. This is a very finely high-definition resin model kit with beautiful moldings, very good cockpit detail, torpedo load-out and more. Includes full decals and a painting guide based on a photo (included on the instructions) of the first prototype. The TB-3 was involved in a much more successful parasite version using fighter-bombers called the Zveno. Two (and even three) I-16 Fighters were attached to the underside of the TB-3 wings. The first combat operations took place in July of 1941. The TB-3s flew within range of petrol factories in Romania, and released the I-16s which dive-bombed the factory. On the way home, the I-16s acted as escort fighters. The most famous operation was the destruction of the Chernavodsky Bridge over the Danube in 1941.
