Very rare. Very large 1/28 scale motorized kit. A metal gear box with nylon gears is driven by a common FA-130 motor. The gearbox spins the propeller and drives the tail wheel, moving the aircraft across any smooth surface while the red and green wing navigation light blink on and off. Factory glue is included as well as all running hardware and lights. Please note that KSN did not furnish the motor with the kit. Features hidden battery compartment (where the real engine would be), moving rudder, elevator and ailerons and opening canopy. The kit has never been started. The small parts, gearbox, lights and glue are still factory sealed. One bag of green plastic parts is also factory sealed; the other bag has been opened and is inventoried complete. The cardboard presentation material and color photo of the assembled model are in 'excellent' condition. Includes instructions and decals in excellent condition also. The box is only graded 'good-' because of the stain at the left.

Very highly detailed resin kit. It has never been started. The parts are still in the internally sealed factory bags. Includes decals and instructions. In early 1950's, a several high-speed flight researches were being proceeded by different agencies, the NACA's hypersonic research, the Air Force's Project 1226 and the Navy's D-558 program. In 1954, Langley team of NACA gathered those similar researches from military services and aerospace industries, combined with the Air Force and Navy to launch the new "Project 1226" competition. As Navy liked to keep in the 'space race' and Douglas liked to run for future manned spaceplanes, the D-558-3 Skyflash (Model 684) design was sponsored by Navy to enter the competition. The D-558-3 was planned to install with the rocket engine which selected by NACA, and air-launch from Boeing B-50. In 1955, while Navy decided to save the development cost and not to be put in the dissenting vote position, NACA and the Air Force agreed with the North American's proposal as the winner of the competition which became the X-15 program. This was a pity because the Douglas design was much more capable than the North American X-15.
