1/330 #605 Ideal Aeroplane & Supply
![]() Ocean Liner SS America / Troop Ship USS West Point / S.S. Australis Wooden Ship Kit Exc Wood_Metal old
| Very rare. This is the finest example that I have ever seen of this rare kit. Large wooden and metal kit builds to just over 26 inches long. This model is of the SS America Ocean Liner, which was designed by the famous naval architect William Francis Gibbs. She was laid down in 1938 and entered service on August 22 1940 as the flagship of the United States Lines. World War II interrupted her passenger service. The ship was active through the war. She narrowly escaped being sunk off Singapore during the Japanese invasion. After the war she resumed her North Atlantic route. The liner was the pride of the US Merchant fleet before the USS United States was commissioned. When the 'Big U' entered service, the two liners were stable mates and often appeared in the same travel agency posters and prints. By 1964 aircraft had taken a large section of the ocean liner travelers away, and the America was sold to Chandris Group and was renamed the Australis. She sailed for 14 years in a very successful career and was the last liner to sail from Southampton to Australia/New Zealand. She was laid up on 1977. She changed owners several times, but was never again successful. While being towed to Thailand, the lines broke and she ran aground in the Canary Island, where the wreak broke up after time - but not before the locals rescued many items from the ship. The model box is excellent and the kit inside is in as-new condition. Kit features pre-carved hull, metal fittings, very large full size plans, print wood and heavy cardstock, clear material for windows, color flag sheet, building instructions with perspective views and rigging material and diagrams. Never started. I believe that I was the first one to remove the parts from the box when I performed the inventory. All of the fittings are still in factory sealed bags and the tissue packing material from the factory is still present. The kit is complete with all parts and plans. You can convert it to the USS West Point if you have photos of the ship (which are on the internet) - the main difference is the addition of lifeboats and different paint. Photos of the S.S. Australis will provide the needed data to convert her to that ship, but this conversion will require more work than the West Point. | |||

#HC10 Megow
![]() Privateer 'Hawk' of 1812 Good+ Wood old
| Rare kit dated 1936 but this exact copy was issued during the World War II, probably 1942/43 judging from the notice inside about restricted materials and the 'emergency' at the time. Megow carried an extensive line of unique and historical ships. This model measures 12 inches long (LOA) and 8.5 inches high when built. Includes highly detailed full size plans with general instructions and detailed rigging and sail information, pre-carved hull, excellent printwood and mast and spar stock. | Very large and highly detailed wooden boat kit for static or RC. Includes rare the optional and desirable metal fittings kit B11-F. In the 1960s Sterling produced a line of famous and now legendary wooden Chris Craft Yacht kits. The kits were known for their scale fidelity, excellent design, strength and quality materials including mahogany woods as used in the actual boats. This is the largest one of the series - the 'Holy Grail' of the line - the 63' Motor Yacht. Specifically designed for gas or electric radio control or for a wonderfully detailed static model. Includes full size plans, instructions, drawings and photos of the full interior if you wish to model it, die-cut balsa and hardwood with inter-notched and self-locking construction, numerous die-cut African Mahogany sheets including cabin sides, windshields, aft cabin bulkhead, rear catwalk, transom and more, die-cut Gabon Mahogany decks and side catwalks, poplar motor mounts, decals and flags, reed molding, plastic for cabin windows, Venetian blind material, metal oval and round portholes, aluminum deck hatches, material for canvas skirt, marine hardware and more. Plans and instructions are excellent but have the expected paper yellow aging. The fittings set B11-F is in the original Sterling Box. The parts have never been used and is inventoried 100% complete with all parts. | |||

Very nicely done kit for it's time with a 80% precarved hull, extensive metal fittings, wooden blocks and deadeyes, metal stock, printwood sheets and full size plans with rigging details and rigging materials. The kit has never been started. Most all small details are still in the internal factory sealed bags and 'Pill Bottle'. All other parts are inventoried 100% complete including plans.
#G-16 Megow
![]() Seabird - 19th Century Merchant Brig - 17.75 inch long Wooden Ship Model Good Wood_Metal old

Includes full size plans, with sectional outlines and assembly instructions, rigging diagrams, complete color scheme, colorful flag sheet and two photos of the completed model. Several parts were rough cut from two printed sheets, but there has been no other work done on the model and it is complete with all parts, metal fittings, rigging material, two jars of Megow paint (it came with three originally), flag sheet and plans. The 'Seabird' was a typical merchant brig of out Philadelphia used in the Pacific Trade dating back to the middle of the 19th century.
