DC-7 Flagship American Airlines One-Piece Stand Arm Pre -S Issue
Good++   Injection Molded   old
$165

1954/55 Pre-S issue with the fantastic artwork of a DC-7 at the moment just before touchdown. Please note, this is the true first issue with the one-piece plastic stand arm, separate wheel axles, main gear struts without holes and instructions that illustrate this. Both arrangements - the one piece stand arm and odd struts with separate axles - proved to be very weak designs. Few were made as Revell quickly corrected it. The second issue has the familiar two piece stand arm, axles modlded into the wheels and inserts for the axles on the main struts. Correctly molded in gloss silver and clear and a large, colorful decal sheet. The instructions have a large, detailed American Airlines route map on the back. Decals are excellent with no curl and very light yellowing. The instructions are intact but grade 'good' due to a stain in the middle. The instructions can be read fine through the stain, but it does distract from them. The kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete including decals and instructions. The box appears better than 'Good++', but is graded as such because you can see stains at certain acute angles.
1/48  #PA129-200  Monogram
De Havilland Mosquito N.F.II / Mk.IV / F.B.VI / II Night Intruder - Four Star Issue
Good+   Injection Molded   old
$32

First issue 'Four Star' kit dated 1965. Contains parts to build any one of four versions: NF II Night Fighter, Mk IB Bomber, Mk VI Fighter Bomber and MkII Night Intruder. Very finely molded and detailed kit for it's day with traditional high Monogram quality. There is no assembly of the parts, but someone has neatly glued scratch-built bulkheads into the gear wells. Inventoried with all plastic parts including instructions. NOTE: missing decals and instructions are from the late 1960s.
  #G-12  Monogram
Speedee-Bilt Grumman F6F Hellcat Flying Scale Model
Good++   Wood   old
$165

Early issue scale flying wooden rubber powered model from the early 1950s. Can be rubber, CO2 or small gas engine powered. Very nicely detailed pre-fabricated kit with completely finished parts, Monofoil wing, cut out fuselage, plastic cowl and prop, detailed instructions and plans and more. The kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete with instructions. NOTE: instructions are graded 'good'. Before there were plastic models, there were wooden aircraft kits. These usually came in two types - solid and stick and tissue. The solid models were static and usually contained a few blocks of balsa and sometimes a detail part or two. These 'Make Wood Blocks Look Like Plane' models required a very high level of skill in carving and finishing. The stick and tissue variety were slightly easier to build and provided the ultimate thrill - they could fly when complete with rubber power (and later with free-flight gas and eventually RC). They still required a great deal of skill, so manufactures sought ways to make model building more accessible to everyone. One idea was pre-carving and/or prefabrication. This raised prices, naturally. Many manufactures launched lines of 'easy' to build flying models but only Monogram succeeded in making an entire line at an affordable price that would actual fly. The original 'Speedee-Bilt' kits, such as this one, were in one-piece two-color boxes. In the early 1950s, shortly before plastic kits were available, Monogram changed to the 'hardbox' with a lithographic slick glued to the top as this kit. Speedee-Bilt kits contained die cut and pre painted wooden parts, completely formed airfoil wings, carved wheels and numerous plastic details like cowling, pilot, missiles, prop and more. Assembly was by detailed full size plans.

Ocean Liner SS America / Troop Ship USS West Point / S.S. Australis Wooden Ship Kit
Exc   Wood_Metal   old
$750

Very rare. This is the finest example that I have ever seen of this rare kit. Large wooden and metal kit builds to just over 26 inches long. This model is of the SS America Ocean Liner, which was designed by the famous naval architect William Francis Gibbs. She was laid down in 1938 and entered service on August 22 1940 as the flagship of the United States Lines. World War II interrupted her passenger service. The ship was active through the war. She narrowly escaped being sunk off Singapore during the Japanese invasion. After the war she resumed her North Atlantic route. The liner was the pride of the US Merchant fleet before the USS United States was commissioned. When the 'Big U' entered service, the two liners were stable mates and often appeared in the same travel agency posters and prints. By 1964 aircraft had taken a large section of the ocean liner travelers away, and the America was sold to Chandris Group and was renamed the Australis. She sailed for 14 years in a very successful career and was the last liner to sail from Southampton to Australia/New Zealand. She was laid up on 1977. She changed owners several times, but was never again successful. While being towed to Thailand, the lines broke and she ran aground in the Canary Island, where the wreak broke up after time - but not before the locals rescued many items from the ship. The model box is excellent and the kit inside is in as-new condition. Kit features pre-carved hull, metal fittings, very large full size plans, print wood and heavy cardstock, clear material for windows, color flag sheet, building instructions with perspective views and rigging material and diagrams. Never started. I believe that I was the first one to remove the parts from the box when I performed the inventory. All of the fittings are still in factory sealed bags and the tissue packing material from the factory is still present. The kit is complete with all parts and plans. You can convert it to the USS West Point if you have photos of the ship (which are on the internet) - the main difference is the addition of lifeboats and different paint. Photos of the S.S. Australis will provide the needed data to convert her to that ship, but this conversion will require more work than the West Point.
1/16  #SF-72  Cleveland
1938 Turner-Laird 'Pesco Special' Racer - Balsa Flying Model Airplane Kit
VG   Wood   old
$155

This is a Cleveland 'SF' or 'Scale Flying' model in museum scale of 1/16. The kit came from a long time collector of 1930s and 1940s models and is in exceptional condition. All Cleveland kits were very complete and this one is no exception. Features very high quality balsa printwood and strip wood, covering material, pre-carved nose, partially machined wheel pants, finished wheels, ready to use prop blades, markings to convert the aircraft to teh 1939 race winner, highest quality plans, and more. The model has not been started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts and plans. The Cleveland Model and Supply Company played a pivotal role in the development of true scale models. In 1909 Bleriot’s English Channel flight caused a surge in aviation and model aircraft around the globe. Several companies were ideally positioned to take advantage of the aviation craze. In the USA, Wading River Manufacturing Co. (1909), White Aeroplane (1911), Ideal Model Aeroplane (1911), Broadfield Model Aeroplanes (1919) were among these pioneers, offering everything from plans and parts to complete kits and ARF models. Lindbergh’s 1927 crossing of the Atlantic Ocean caused an even bigger world-wide phenomenon called “The Aviation Craze” that extended up to the start of World War II. Many companies such as Megow, Guillow's and others started right around the time of Lindbergh’s flight. Some of these models flew and flew well, but they all had one thing in common - were generally not accurate scale representations. In 1929, a youngster named Ed Packard had a very advanced dream – to produce incredibly accurate, true scale models that flew perfectly. This radical idea established the world’s longest running single-owner (77 years) model airplane supply business – Cleveland Model and Supply Company. To this day, Cleveland models are treasured as the most accurate flying scale models produced. The fact that Mr. Packard started and successfully grew this business during The Great Depression is a testament to his ideals and business skill. I highly suggest the excellent book called ‘Aviation’s great Recruiter – Cleveland’s Ed Packard’ by H.L. (Herm) Schreiner. It is an excellent history of the man, his company and the times of the Golden Age of Model Aviation.

Although the Mirage IV force was phased out in 1996, ASPM continues to serve with the Mirage 2000N, Super Etendard and Rafale. ASPM-A is an advanced version now in service with these aircraft.
