Well molded kit, probably from the late 1980s. Has markings for US Navy VS-21 and JSDF. Kit features cockpit detail, retractable radome, optional position landing gear and rotating props. The kit has never been started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes decals and instructions. Over 1000 Trackers were completed for the Navy as carrier-based submarine hunters. Grumman was awarded the contract in 1950, and in 1952 the first XS2F-1 flew. The large belly radome contained the PAS-38 search radar and the ASQ-10 MAD detector was in the tail. ALD-3 ECM performed DF (direction finding) duties, and the 70 million candle power spotlight lit up targets at night. Sonobuoys were held in both engine nacelles and offensive weapons included acoustic torpedoes, depth charges, rockets and conventional bombs. Trackers saw service in several other Navies including Canada.

1954 Pre 'S' hardbox in beautiful 'excellent++' condition. The colors and gloss are brilliant and as new. The corners are solid with no repairs and this box even missed the tape machine - there is no factory sealing tape or marks from it. Inside, the kit is mint as it left the factory. All small parts are still sealed in the factory bag; the parts that were never sealed have been inventoried complete including decals, correct large-format flag sheet and instructions. The decals and flags are in 'excellent' condition with typical yellowing as the only flaw. Instructions are 'near mint+.' Includes decals and hull numbers for these cruisers: USS Los Angeles, Fall River, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Columbus, Bremerton, Canberra, Toledo, Quincy, Chicago, St. Paul, Helen, Macon and Boston.

Very early issue from the 1950s with colorful Ray Gaedke hardbox artwork. This is the third issue of this kit for the USA, with added fine rivet detail and molded in silver and clear. Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts decals and instructions. NOTE: there is a small (1/2" x 1/2") price tag litho pull on the left short side of the box top and a very light stain along the right edge as shown in the photo. This kit started life as a basic 1/48 scale model with minimal surface detail, full landing gear, rockets and bombs. Lindberg modified it in the mid 1950s with very fine rivet detail. In the late 1950s it was modified again to a motorized version with an electric motor in the nose and the batteries in the stand. Lindberg is a company with a fascinating history The original 'Lindberg Line' stretches back to the 1930s when Paul Lindberg drew plans for famous modeling magazines and marketed his balsa wood 'stick and tissue' by urging dealers to carry the '...Complete Lindberg Line'. The Wright Brothers Kitty Hawk was the first aircraft to make powered and controlled flight, and the Bleriot Monoplane was the first aircraft to fly over the English Channel. These are unique and accurate kits. The original internal frame structure and details of the aircraft is built from injection molded plastic. When complete, it is covered with a very strong fabric which is included. The result is a very realistic aircraft.
