Rare 1950s first and only issue. StromBecker was famous for their high-quality line of precarved hardwood and plastic kits. All of the carving is is done to the final shape in hardwood with the wings, fin and nose are injection molded in a beautiful gloss plastic. Includes a precarved hardwood base and formed metal stand wire. When complete it makes an impressive desk top display. Never started and complete with all parts and plans (which are printed on the back of the box).
Comet USS Gridley Destroyer - DD380, K9

Dated 1944. Almost everyone has heard of the Comet flying aircraft kits that boys and men built from stick and tissue, but few know that Comet had a line of wooden ships also. This destroyer measures 12 inches long when assembled. The hull had been very neatly factory machine cut to the overhead (beam) dimensions only. Also includes three sheets of printwood, mast and gun barrel material and full size plans. The plans are superior to most ship plans of the day with 3 hull sections, full size top and side drawings, illustrated instructions and a very large number of detail drawings. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes instructions. NOTE: Comet used too narrow of a 'block' when machine-cutting the hull. As a result, there is a 9" strip of wood that is short on one side by about 1/4 to 3/8". You will need to glue a strip to this or use filler to rebuild it. The Comet 'Fleet' shown on the box side included K11 Aircraft Carrier, K7 Cruiser, K10 Battleship, K9 Destroyer and K12 Submarine. From the gaps in the part numbers there may have been other kits as well.

This large scale destroyer escort is dated 1968 and motorized for operation in water. It features an electric motor, battery holder, one-piece hull, scale propeller, drive propeller, ballast weight holder that attaches to the bottom of the hull so she rides on an even keel, separately molded 5" main turrets, 40mm guns and 20mm guns with separate shields, torpedo tubes, depth charges and more. Could be made remote control with today's tiny systems (R/C gear not included). Never started. Inventoried and NOTE: missing one part, #14 gun directly.
