Ford SIAM (Self Initiated Anti-Aircraft Missile) or SUBADS (Submarine Air-Defense System) Factory Model
Multi_Media   old
$475

Very rare factory display model of the 1970s DARPA SIAM project, which was short for Self-Initiated Anti-Aircraft Missile. The idea was to develop a copmletely autonomous air-defense missile. One of the most obvious purposes was for use onboard submarines. The submarine can hear the aircraft or helicpoter as it approached since the sound propagates through the water. The submarine could then launch a SIAM buoy to the surface, where the missile would automatically detect and attack any incoming aircraft. It was also theorized that SIAM could be launched vertically from the submarine itself. SIAM was tested in the early 1980s and was generally successful. DARPA handed SIAM over to the Navy, where it was deactived due to funding. This factory model is complete with it's original stand. The wooden base has a metal disk showing a submarine launching a SIAM, which is shown executing it's 'dual homing' functions. The missile is just over 7 inches long. Condition is excellent. There base and metal badge are near mint. The missileis excellent, with all original paint and decals. There is some minor wear on some of the port gold decals.

The model is mint and original. No restoration has been done and there are no flaws. The original base in in the same condition. Titan I was the USAs first multi-stage Interncontinental Ballistic Missile. Designed in 1955, it was originally a back-up for the Atlas program. Titan was larger than Atlas and was also seen as an early space launch vehicle. Titan was stored in hardened underground silos. The arrival of solid fuel Titan II and Minuteman I missiles in 1963 made Titan I obsolete. The follow-on, Titan II became a major workhorse in the space program and served well as a heavy lift ICBM.

N.S. Savannah Nuclear Cargo Ship

Kit is highly detailed and features clear promanade deck window inserts. The kit has never been started. Ship is inventoried complete with all parts. Includes decals, instructions with flag sheet. Adams was founded by Steve Adams and released plastic assembly kits in the late 1950s. The company was innovative and the general quality of most kits was very high for the time- so much that builders (not just collectors) still seek the kits today. Adams is best known today for a series of military vehicles and missiles, although they also released an aircraft (Draken), helicopter (YH-41), balloon (La Coquette) and ship (SS Savannah). Some of these appeared in gift sets as well. The Adams smaller scale (1/40) Atomic Cannon, Hawk Missile Battery, Honest John, Vanguard (1/80) and Thor (1/87)missiles and other kits are still sought after today. Combinations of these kits were issued in gift sets, which are very desirable collector's items today. In the late 1950s, Adams entered into a joint venture with Revell, and several of the military kits were released under the Revell label, such as the Jeep among others. Around 1960 there was a disagreement between Adams and Revell, and the agreement was terminated. Sometime after this, Adams quit the plastic model business, and Life-Like purchased most of the Adams molds.

IL-2M3 Stormovik Type 3 Logo Issue
NM   Injection Molded   old
$24

The legendary Stormovik gave the Germans nothing but trouble on the Eastern Front. Designed as a heavily armed single seat or dual seat attack aircraft, the Stormovik was very difficult to shoot down; even then if the pilot could crash land it, he had an excellent chance of walking away and flying again the next day. Il-2M3s endlessly attacked German forward and rear positions effectively and in large numbers till the end of the war. Never started. Factory sealed bag or inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions.

1960s 'Type Three' logo issue. Very nicely detailed and molded kit. The kit has never been started. NOTE: missing two flat side windows. Otherwise inventoried with all other parts including decals and instructions. One rotor blade has broken cleanly in two and both parts are included. The Rotodyne first flew in 1957. The purpose was to create the first true vertical take-off airliner that could operate from an area no larger than two tennis courts with a full load. The Rotodyne flew at up to 191 MPH with a range of 450 miles and a payload of 48 passengers or 5 tons of freight. Despite the excellent performance and a larger design in the works, the RAF never placed an order and BEA never placed a firm order. The project was discontinued in 1962.

Short Sunderland III
Good   Injection Molded   old
$42

Type 3 logo 1960s issue 'Porcupine'. The box is worn, but the kit has never been started and is still sealed in the internal factory bag. Complete with decals and instructions. The Sunderland's 21-year record with the RAF has made it a legend. Derived from the Empire Class Flying Boat Airliners, Sunderland IIIs had a top speed of 210 mph and an endurance of 12 hours. These qualities made the Sunderland a superb platform for North Sea and North Atlantic patrols, ASW and SAR. Crews usually loved the airplane; it's large size afforded many airborne comforts that bomber or fighter crews could only dream of, such as bunk, a head and an area for food preparation.
