1/48  #33a-98  Aurora
Lockheed F-90 - West Hempstead Issue
Exc+   Injection Molded   old
$250

Fourth issue of the famous 1/48 F-90 Long Range Fighter. With the early and colorful 'Aurora Line' rectangular logo. Although not dated, the logo tells us this kit is from 1954/1955. Molded in gloss silver and clear, with landing gear and missiles and the modified rectangular 'Brooklyn' style two-piece stand. With the correct Tatem decals and instructions which are both in exceptional near mint condition. Even the original tissue paper is present. The kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete including decals and instructions. When Aurora issued it's first two plastic kits, they were copies of the Hawk Model Company's F9F and F-90 fighters. The first Aurora issue was in the rather plain and very rare flip-top one-piece box with the kit molded in gray with no landing gear and missiles from the Brooklyn factory. The second issue was also from Brooklyn and molded in gray with no landing gear or missiles but was in the new two-piece hardbox. The third official issue is the West Hempstead issue and is molded in silver with landing gear and missiles ('Brooklyn Gray' issues of this kit are confirmed to exist). This kit is the fourth issue.

The first draft of the instructions left out the stand ball retainer, and the supplement includes that omission. Never started. Inventoried with all parts and like new decals and instructions.

1/32  #09450  Life-Like
1936 Duesenberg SSJ LaGrande-Bodied Roadster (ex-Pyro)
Sealed Mint   Injection Molded   old
$36

Still factory sealed. 1970s Life-Like issue from the original 1966 Pyro molds. Features detailed chassis, complete motor and interior and a removable hood. In the early to mid 1960s the Pyro company chose many of it's kit subjects based more on historical significance than popularity. Luckily for us, Pyro not only made these kits but did an excellent job for the time. The Pyro car models are based on the actual cars that Pyro engineers and designers had access to, in this case Gary Cooper and Cary Grant's automobiles. This was the Duesenberg Company's last great automobile before going out of business in 1937. The Model J was a superb automobile and the fastest and finest car of it's day. Never to be outdone, the two brothers made two supercharged 'Super-Duesenbergs' were constructed from J models and are referred to as SSJs. The out put was a whopping 400 bhp. (The term SSJ was never used by the factory.)

$125

Rare kit from the 1940s. The Bill Warner Strato-Cat could be built in 30 or 36 inch wingspans with 140 or 180 square inches of wing area. It was designed and produced in the pre-glow plug era, as it has room for a coil, condenser and battery box. The kit was fairly advanced and has significant prefabrication - the fuselage is carved from solid blocks, and many other parts are precut and carved as well, some in hardwood. All of the small parts and decals are still sealed in two small factory bags. The kit has never been started. The small parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and the parts that were never sealed have been inventoried 100% complete including decals and plans with instructions.

1/16  #M-14  Cleveland
Fokker DR-1 Triplane - 18 Inch Wingspan Wooden Flying Model
Good++   Wood   old
$145

This is a Cleveland 'Scale Flying' model in museum scale of 1/16. It was issued in 1932. The kit came from a long time collector of 1930s and 1940s models and is in exceptional condition. All Cleveland kits were exceptionally complete and this one is no exception. Features very high quality balsa printwood and strip wood, completely precarved nose cowl and wheels, covering material, metal stock, highest quality plans, all parts required for assembly and correct insignia. The model has not been started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions. The Cleveland Model and Supply Company played a pivotal role in the development of true scale models. In 1909 Bleriot’s English Channel flight caused a surge in aviation and model aircraft around the globe. Several companies were ideally positioned to take advantage of the aviation craze. In the USA, Wading River Manufacturing Co. (1909), White Aeroplane (1911), Ideal Model Aeroplane (1911), Broadfield Model Aeroplanes (1919) were among these pioneers, offering everything from plans and parts to complete kits and ARF models. Lindbergh’s 1927 crossing of the Atlantic Ocean caused an even bigger world-wide phenomenon called “The Aviation Craze” that extended up to the start of World War II. Many companies such as Megow, Guillow's and others started right around the time of Lindbergh’s flight. Some of these models flew and flew well, but they all had one thing in common - were generally not accurate scale representations. In 1929, a youngster named Ed Packard had a very advanced dream – to produce incredibly accurate, true scale models that flew perfectly. This radical idea established the world’s longest running single-owner (77 years) model airplane supply business – Cleveland Model and Supply Company. To this day, Cleveland models are treasured as the most accurate flying scale models produced. The fact that Mr. Packard started and successfully grew this business during The Great Depression is a testament to his ideals and business skill. I highly suggest the excellent book called ‘Aviation’s great Recruiter – Cleveland’s Ed Packard’ by H.L. (Herm) Schreiner. It is an excellent history of the man, his company and the times of the Golden Age of Model Aviation.

1907 Renault Limousine - Highway Pioneers Series Four
VG   Injection Molded   old
$44

1953 early issue molded in salmon plastic. This is from the issues produced with Gowland & Gowland as it carrier their 'balloon' logo on the side. The model has not been started. The parts are still sealed in the original 'krinkle' bag and the kit is complete with instructions. Before the 1950s 'model building' as a hobby did not even make the top 10 list of boy’s activities. Hobbies were nothing new to America in the 1930s/40s, but they were not mainstream. Shortly after the turn of the century, many dedicated modelers built flying or static airplanes, ship, train, automotive or other subjects. Basic kits existed, but the majority of these models were built from scratch, which demanded a high talent level developed from years of experience. That changed in the early 1950s. The phenomenon of the Revell/Gowland & Gowland ‘Highway Pioneers’ car kits was a significant mover in proving that model building as a hobby could have mass appeal, provided that the kits were easy enough to build and finish. They could be built in an hour after dinner and looked like the real car. The Highway Pioneers series helped lead to the production of other subjects in plastic. The effect was revolutionary. By the early 1960s, model building was the # 1 past time of American boys.
