The Type XXI U-Boats were the world's first true submarines; they could travel at high speeds for great distances underwater and attack without visual contact with the targets. The 'snort' allowed them to recharge the batteries and renew the air, eliminating the last needs for surfacing. A development of the Walther Peroxide Boats, the XXIs were seen as a faster way to put a more advanced submarine into service. | |||

| 1962 issue with John Steel box art. Well detailed, large scale model measures 15.75 inches long when assembled. Includes Master Modelers Stamp for the USS Aaron Ward. The kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete including decals, flags and instructions. The Aaron Ward served as a station ship during the first trans-Atlantic flights of NC-1, NC-3 and NC-4 in 1919. During that time she was commanded by the famous Commander R.A. Spruance (later Admiral) of Midway fame. After that she served in the Pacific Fleet. In 1940 she became part of the famous Lend-Lease arrangement and was renamed HMS Castleton and saw heavy duty as a convoy escort in the North Atlantic till 1944. | |||
