Monogram Boeing 737 United Airlines (T-43A) - (Ex-Aurora) (Modified Molds), 1/72, 5415

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

Sold

Still the only 1/72 injection molded 737 and a big improvement from the Aurora kit. 1978 issue after Monogram bought Aurora's molds. Monogram only reissued the best and most commercially viable models. The 737 fell into that category but only after Monogram carefully modified the molds for accuracy. The result is an excellent early 737-100. First, Monogram filled in the side windows. Then they added very fine and accurate full panel lines to the entire model even down to the nacelles. and Much-needed flap hinge covers (fairings) were added to the lower wings. Contains greatly improved, full, excellent United Airlines markings and window decals. Could be converted to Military Transport T-43A, but you must furnish your own decals. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. NOTE: decals were adult-cut in half so the 1st owner could store them in a zip lock bag. The result is that they are in amazing 'near mint' condition but they are cut in half.

California Model Co SPAD XIII - 18.75 Inch Wingspan Balsa Flying Aircraft, 1/16

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc+

Sold

Probably from the late 1940s or early 1950s. Stick and tissue flying model kit to a constant 1/16 scale with very nice quality. Kit can use rubber, CO2 or small gas motors for power. Features covering material, quality balsa printwood and strip wood, blocks as needed and beautifully drawn full size plans. The model has not been started. Inventoried complete with all parts and plans. Made by California Model Company out of Long Beach, CA USA. If you have more information on this manufacture, please email me. How far back they go is unknown; they claim to have the 'Know How of 30 Years Experience' on the box side, but that could be interpreted many ways. From the box there was at least a Spad, SE-5, Fokker DVII, Niuport and a Sopwith Camel for rubber power as well as the 'Spacer A-B' & 'Spacer 1/2A' and the indoor Featherette. We know they also issued some ex-Suydam railroad kits as well. From Bill Baker Jr - "California Model Company originated in Long Beach, Calif in the late 1940's or early 1950's. My grandparents, William (Bill) Loyal Baker and his wife, Ruth (Tripp) Baker were the founders. The company started out as primarily balsa based model aircraft but later, in the late 50's or early 60's, branched into the model RR craft kits and Cub Scout craft kits. They even had a balsa speed boat kit powered by a model airplane gas engine adapted to fit. When they retired, around 1968 or 1969, they sold the business and the "shop" in North Long Beach they built to house their business. I have many fond memories as a young child "working" with them in the shop, assembling kits. I have a few unbuilt kits today!"

Pyro Civil War Blockade Runner (Cutter Lavinia) - (ex-Harriett Lane), 1/124, B375-400

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

After the initial issue, Pyro re-marketed the Harriett Lane as the 'Lavinia,' which was what the Confederates renamed her when they captured and converted her to a blockade runner. This kit was originally made in the early to mid 1960s and is well detailed for that time. Features full hull, full deck fittings, railings, detailed running and standing rigging diagrams, sails, rigging material and more. Molded in green (hull), wood tan, medium gray and black. The kit has never been started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes instructions. The Harriett Lane was built in 1858 and named for President Buchanan's niece. The cutter was 180 feet long with a 30 foot beam and displacement was 670 tons. Armament consisted of 3-9 inch Dahlgrens and 1-30 lb Parrot Rifle. She was built at a time when steam was not fool-proof, so she is rigged for full sails. Harriett Lane served as the Presidential Yacht, the fired the first shot of the Civil War. She chased down blockade runners until January 1, 1863 when she was attacked by five Confederate Gun Boats and boarded. She was captured and renamed the Lavinia and was used as a blockade runner. Near the end of the war she caught fire at sea, and put into Havana Harbor. Federal forces took her again and rebuilt her in 1869 as the bark 'Elliot Ritchie'. She was abandoned at sea in 1884.
