First issue from 1957. The box is in amazing investment-grade 'Near Mint' condition with factory-new color and gloss, four solid corners, no stains, fading or creases, no price tags or tag marks, no tape (other than the factory sealing tape) and no repairs. The only flaws are from very, very light and even shelf-wear. Even includes a sealed metal sealed tube of Revell "S" Cement in great condition as well. Very well detailed and molded, like most early Revell sailing ships. Features full hull with display stand, detailed deck fittings and houses, separately masts and yards arms, separately molded belaying pins, excellent deadeye assemblies, lifeboats, Revell's superb preformed rat lines, rigging instructions, rigging material and vacuform billowing sails. The sails are in amazing 'mint' condition. Molded in three colors - white, light wood tan (almost light orange) and dark brown wood. Never started. Inventoried complete with all parts, decals, flags, rigging material and instructions present. Instructions and decals are both in 'excellent++' condition. The 295' bark rigged sailing ship was built in 1936 in Bremerhaven, Germany, for the German Navy. It was originally named Horst Vessel. The vessel was acquired in 1946 as a World War II war reparation. The ship was named the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Eagle, and has been used ever since as a training ship for future U.S. Coast Guard Officers. Eagle is based in New London, Connecticut.

It is never started, and all the parts are still sealed in the factory 'krinkle' bag. With instructions. Before the 1950s 'model building' never made the top 10 list of boy's activities. Hobbies were nothing new to America in the 1930s/40s, but they were not mainstream. Shortly after the turn of the century, many dedicated modelers built flying or static airplanes, ship, train, automotive or other subjects. Basic kits existed, but the majority of these models were built from scratch, which demanded a high talent level developed from years of experience. That changed in the early 1950s. The phenomenon of the Revell/Gowland & Gowland 'Highway Pioneers' car kits was a significant force in proving that model building as a hobby could have mass appeal, provided that the kits were easy enough to build and finish. These 1/32 scale vehicles could be built in an hour after dinner and looked much like the real car. The Highway Pioneers series lead to the production of other subjects in plastic and the effect was revolutionary. By the early 1960s, model building was the #1 past time of American boys.

Original dealer promotional model in 'excellent' overall condition. There is no warping. The original paint has great color and gloss and is a 9 out of 10 (if 10 was perfect). The clear is excellent but can use. This promo came from an adult collector who got this model new, so it has never been played with. The friction motor is intact and work well. No parts are missing and it is original except that he painted the chassis panel semi-gloss black.
