Comet Grumman F6F Hellcat - 24 Inch Wingspan - Coca-Cola Bottle Issue, Y4-129

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

Sold

Part of the deluxe, high-cost Comet "Y" kit line from the 1950s. Note the box showing a bottle of Coke next to the young builder's snack tray and a finished aircraft. For rubber flight or easily converted to RC using today's tiny and light servos and receivers. Kit features traditional wood/tissue construction, very high quality printwood, stripwood and spars, other balsa stock as required, scale wood prop, completely preformed wood wheels, additional sheet with cut-out canopy frames, air intake and instrument panel, metal prop shaft, fully formed thrust button, covering tissue and superb full size plans with instructions. The model has not been started. There has been no assembly, but NOTE: about 15 parts were cut out to 'professional' quality. One cut out part, F7, is missing a thin part of balsa (about 3mm wide) from the center but is otherwise complete and easy to reproduce. Inventoried complete with all parts. Comet was a famous manufacturer of stick and tissue flying and static models. In the 1930s Great Depression, they lead the low-priced kit revolution with the "Dime Scale" kits and famous advertisements in Model Airplane News magazine and others. Comet reached it's peak in the 1930s when they acquired the services of Carl Goldberg. Goldberg was a highly accomplished modeler with articles in Model Airplane News and famous designs that won him several National level competitions in the 1930s and beyond. (Carl Goldberg went on to found his own company and produced well designed and popular free-flight and RC aircraft). Comet survived the post World War economic slump and continued kit production until they were bought out by long-time competitor Guillow's in 1998.

Cleveland Col. W.A. Bishops Nieuport Scout Biplane - 13 Inch Wingspan Free-Flight Rubber Powered Flying Aircraft, 1/24, D-12

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

Sold

Very rare and from 1936. This is a Cleveland 'D' or dwarf kit. The term 'Dwarf' is just a bit deceptive, as it is Cleveland's designation for 1/24 scale. Most Cleveland kits were designated 'SF' or Scale Flying - 1/16 scale. The Dwarf kits were needed to fill a market demand for smaller flying models. The kit came from a long time collector of 1930s and 1940s models and is in exceptional condition. All Cleveland kits were exceptionally complete and this one is no exception. Features two sheetes of very high quality balsa printwood, stringers & spars, fully formed nacelle and wheels, covering tissue, a wood propeller that is about 90% carved and just needs final sanding, gray rigging thread, metal and balsa stock as required, full color insignia and more. With Cleveland's famous high-quality plans. The model has not been started. Inventoried complete with all parts and paperwork present. Cleveland Model and Supply Company played a pivotal role in the development of true scale models. In 1909 Bleriot's English Channel flight caused a surge in aviation and model aircraft around the globe. Several companies were ideally positioned to take advantage of the aviation craze. In the USA, Wading River Manufacturing Co. (1909), White Aeroplane (1911), Ideal Model Aeroplane (1911), Broadfield Model Aeroplanes (1919) were among these pioneers, offering everything from plans and parts to complete kits and ARF models. Lindbergh's 1927 crossing of the Atlantic Ocean caused an even bigger world-wide phenomenon called "The Aviation Craze" that extended up to the start of World War II. Many companies such as Megow, Guillow's and others started right around the time of Lindbergh's flight. Some of these models flew and flew well, but they all had one thing in common - were generally not accurate scale representations. In 1929, a youngster named Ed Packard had a very advanced dream- to produce incredibly accurate, true scale models that flew perfectly. This radical idea established the world's longest running single-owner (77 years) model airplane supply business - Cleveland Model and Supply Company. To this day, Cleveland models are treasured as the most accurate flying scale models produced. The fact that Mr. Packard started and successfully grew this business during The Great Depression is a testament to his ideals and business skill. I highly suggest the excellent book called 'Aviation's great Recruiter - Cleveland's Ed Packard' by H.L. (Herm) Schreiner. It is an excellent history of the man, his company and the times of the Golden Age of Model Aviation.

Jo-Han 1961 Plymouth Fury 2 Door Hardtop 3 in 1 - Custom / Stock / Racing, 1/25, 2361-139

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

Sold

Very rare kit and ever rarer in never started and complete condition. This is a very good model of a great subject. It features detailed chassis with torsion bars suspension, optional position lowering blocks (for stock or custom), full interior and a host of optional parts such as fender skirts, tach, floor shift, exhaust dump pipes, fender mirrors, chrome horns, dual aerials, louvers, continental kit and more. Molded in light yellow, chrome plate, clear and with rubber wide white-wall tires, metal axles and metal body screws. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried with all parts and includes decals and instructions. Decals are in amazing 'near mint' condition and the instructions are 'excellent+'. The box is only 'good' because there is bug litho damage which is centered mainly around the edges; there is more on the lower long side than on the top. Please NOTE that on these and other early Jo-Han car kits that the decals pictured on the side are not always the decals that Jo-han placed inside. Jo-Han used more than one generic decal sheet and some of them for at least two years. It also seems that in the early years they used about whatever was laying around, probably as a cost-saving measure. The decal sheet in this kit has does match some of the transfers shown on the box side picture but not all of them.
