Ideal Aeroplane & Supply
![]() RMS Queen Mary - 18 inch Wooden Model - 'Win A Free Trip To Europe' Issue Fair++ Wood_Metal old
| Very old 1930s issue from Ideal Aeroplane & Supply Company. Ideal was one of the first US model producers, starting their business in 1911. The catalogs show complete kits but they also sold a very large variety of model fittings and raw materials for the scratch builder (who were the majority at that time). Ideal ran what may have been one of the very first hobby shops in New York. It was a small walk-in area of the plant where you could buy catalog items over the counter. This kit is the famous 'Contest' issue Queen Mary. It has an 18 inch 'Redi-Form' hollow hull which is already molded to shape, numerous print wood sheets, formed fiber funnels, the original paint (in corked glass bottles), fiber printed parts sheets and full size plans with 40 detail diagrams and 10 construction photos. The ship has metal fittings. NOTE: the following metal parts are missing- 6 of the 22 metal lifeboats, 1 of 2 anchors and 2 of 4 props. The kit includes all other parts, printwood sheets, funnel material, stock wood, fiber parts, molded hull, wood filler, paint and plans. | |||

1/32 Modav
![]() Vosper Thornycraft K.D. Perkasa Gas Turbine Patrol Boat - 37 Inch Long Radio Controlled Boat Kit Good++ Wood old
| Rare. From the 1970s. Large 1/32 scale kit measures 37 inches long (935mm) with a beam of 9.25 inches (235mm) when assembled. Nicely detailed kit for static display or operation on water. Recommended power is .19 gas engine, but it could be easily made electric power. With the exception of a few metal and plastic parts, the kit is completely die-cut lite plywood (mainly birch) with a very fine grain. Details are balsawood and hardwood with metal stock. Paperwork includes highly illustrated instruction book with class history and step by step instructions, parts layout sheet and parts list and fold out plans. The kit has never been started. All the small sub assembles (such as the gun, cooling stacks, lockers, etc) are still sealed in the factory bags. All other parts have been inventoried complete and un-punched. Modav, or Model Avionics, made this kit and others in the early 1970s. Later they became known as Precedent. This kit seems to have been issued on the edge of the transformation as the box is Modav and the paperwork is labeled Precedent and Modav (even on the same sheets). | |||

Comet
![]() Frigate USS Constitution - Wooden Ship Kit Poor++ Wood old
| Very rare kit from the early 1930s. All wood construction kit features bread-and-butter hull, printwood and required wooden stock. Includes full size plans/instructions. The kit has not been started and is complete with all parts and plans. Please note that the plans and box are very fragile. The plans are about 95% complete but heavy taped on the back. The majority of the damage is small missing sections of the outer boarder. Comet, founded in 1929, was a famous manufacture of stick and tissue flying and static models. In the 1930s Great Depression, they lead the low-priced kit revolution with the 'Dime Scale' kits and famous advertisements in Model Airplane News magazine and others. Comet reached it's peak in the 1930s when they acquired the services of Carl Goldberg. Goldberg was a highly accomplished modeler with articles in Model Airplane News and famous designs that won him several National level competitions in the 1930s and beyond. (Carl Goldberg went on to found his own company and produced well designed and popular free-flight and RC aircraft). Comet survived the post World War economic slump and continued kit production until they were bought out by long-time competitor Guillow's in 1998. | |||
