Aurora Lightning P-38 - Famous Fighters of All Nations, 1/48, 99-98

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

$125

Rare. Third issue with rectangular 'Aurora Line' logo and Famous Fighters of All Nations on the box top. The box has four solid and original corners, no repairs, tags, tag marks or tape (other than the factory sealing tape) but has moderate wear and very light age foxing as shown, hence the grade of 'good.' Inside, this model is molded in a stunning and beautiful correct gloss medium blue plastic and clear. It includes the correct early rectangular clear stand and stand arm. The model has never been started and is inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions present. Even the original factory tissue packing paper is present. Aurora Boeing B-29 Superfortress, 1/76, 372-249

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc++

$159

Rare 1960s issue retaining the same artwork as the 1956 issue. The hardbox is in amazing 'Excellent++' condition which is rare. This kit has arguably the most dramatic and fanciful B-29 artwork from the 'Golden Era' of modeling. Never started. Inventoried an the actual aircraft is complete with the decals and instructions but NOTE: missing the display stand. Responding to market information that boys wanted larger kits, Aurora introduced the B-26 followed by the B-29 and B-25, all of which sold well for many years. This is likely the 4th issue. I believe the 3rd issue is almost identical but has "Famous Fighters" in the oval logo. That would date this kit as 1963 and up till the 'Big A' box issue. Note the square 'Northern Lights' logo has been replaced with the Aurora sunburst oval logo.

Cleveland Mitsubishi A6M-2 Zero (Zeke) - Balsa Flying Aircraft - (A6M2), 1/16, SF-86

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

$115

This is a Cleveland 'SF' or 'Scale Flying' model in museum scale of 1/16. The kit came from a long time collector of 1930s and 1940s models and is in exceptional condition. All Cleveland kits were exceptionally complete and this one is no exception. Features very high quality balsa printwood and strip wood, covering material, highest quality plans, all parts required for assembly and decals (if issued with the kit). The model has not been started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions. The Cleveland Model and Supply Company played a pivotal role in the development of true scale models. In 1909 Bleriot's English Channel flight caused a surge in aviation and model aircraft around the globe. Several companies were ideally positioned to take advantage of the aviation craze. In the USA, Wading River Manufacturing Co. (1909), White Aeroplane (1911), Ideal Model Aeroplane (1911), Broadfield Model Aeroplanes (1919) were among these pioneers, offering everything from plans and parts to complete kits and ARF models. Lindbergh's 1927 crossing of the Atlantic Ocean caused an even bigger world-wide phenomenon called 'The Aviation Craze' that extended up to the start of World War II. Many companies such as Megow, Guillow's and others started right around the time of Lindbergh's flight. Some of these models flew and flew well, but they all had one thing in common - were generally not accurate scale representations. In 1929, a youngster named Ed Packard had a very advanced dream to produce incredibly accurate, true scale models that flew perfectly. This radical idea established the world's longest operating single-owner model airplane supply business, called Cleveland Model and Supply Company. To this day, Cleveland models are treasured as the most accurate flying scale models produced. The fact that Mr. Packard started and successfully grew this business during The Great Depression is a testament to his ideals and business skill. I highly suggest the excellent book called 'Aviations great Recruiter, Cleveland's Ed Packard' by H.L. (Herm) Schreiner. It is an excellent history of the man, his company and the times of the Golden Age of Model Aviation.

This is a very hard-to-fine original O-lin kit in the small box and advertisement for O-lin cement on the top. Produced in 1949 or just before. O-Lin (Olin) was founded by Paul Lindberg and a Mr. Olsen - hence the company name. Although a producer of flying models in the 1930s, O-lin produced some of the earliest American injection molded kits in the late 1940s. In 1950 the partnership may have ended, because all branding was changed to Lindberg and Paul Lindberg. Inside, the kit is as new. It is molded in high gloss light gray and has the correct decals and instructions. The kit has never been started and is inventoried complete with all parts, instructions and decals.

1960s issue that is very finely molded in silver. Features separately molded ailerons, elevators and rudder. This kit has never been started. Air Lines kits are all Frog molds that the Lines Brothers imported to the USA between 1964-1966. The kits, decals and instructions were made in England, then imported to the USA where Testors created the boxes with the colorful trading cards on the back. There are one or two trading cards on each box which show the boxart but not the advertising/logo. Some kits contain a Testors color painting guide also, but it is not specific to any model.

Aurora Martin B-26 Marauder, 1/46, 371-259

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

$225

Very rare first issue from the early 1950s. When Aurora moved to the West Hempstead plant, they planned a series of very large scale bombers. All kits released up to this time had been small. Aurora's instincts were correct, and the B-26, B-25 and B-29 were a big sales success. This box art was done by Jim Cox and was only used for about one year, making it very rare. The kit has never been started and is inventoried 100% complete with the original tissue paper, all parts, large clear stand, instructions and decals.

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc+

$159

1956 original issue 'S' kit. It is easy to see why the Revell kits of the 1950s are considered the apex of box artwork. Molded in correct gloss gray, with the famous clear, round Revell 'Globe' stand. Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions. Instructions and decals are 'excellent' and flat with slight age yellowing as the only significant flaw. The box has factory-new color and gloss, four solid corners (and no repairs), no tape marks (other than the factory sealing tape), no tags, tag pulls or marks, and no tears. Flaws include very light and isolated edge and corner wear as shown and more edge wear on the bottom of the two short side panels. The box is certainly not perfect but in a highly displayable condition.
