UPC M-40 155mm Self-Propelled Gun - (ex Adams), 1/40, 2151-250

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

$55

Universal Powermaster's 2nd reissue of the 1957 Adams 'Action Model' that is amazingly well detailed for that time. Features rotating, elevating and recoiling gun, working track and hatches, hinged platform that opens and closes, working extension ramp, crew and much more. Never started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bag and includes decals and instructions. This kit has a fascinating history. After Adams became disillusioned with plastic model kit production (perhaps partially due to interaction with Revell's founder), they sold most if not all of the molds to Athearn, the famous craftsman HO train kit manufacturer. Athearn reissued many of the kits under the SNAP name. This name sometimes caused confusion. Many people thought they were snap-together kits; they couldn't have been more wrong. Athearn did a simple modification to each mold; where it would say ADAMS (usually on a part or area that did not show), they machined that away and put the SNAP logo. At some point Athearn stopped production and eventually sold the molds. However, during this time in the 1960s, UPC decided to reissue many of these kits. Evidently Athearn did the molding or a job shop did, while UPC produced their own boxes, instructions and decals. UPC stood for Universal Powermaster Corporation which was based out of New York City, NY. UPC did not cut their own molds, but bought kits already molded from other manufacturers (many in Japan) and re-boxed the kits in the USA. Scott Eidson, the famous artist best known for his artwork with Revell, also did UPC box art in the 1960s. However, the famous Roy Grinnell did the 2nd issue UPC artwork for the ex-Adams AA Gun, M-40 (this kit) and perhaps others. All UPC production ended in the 1970s. NOTE: instructions are SNAP instructions. I have seen this before and evidently UPC used up Athearn's stock of instructions in their kits. Given the cost of printing back then, this would have been a wise move.

Aurora The Barnstormers Customizing Kit DH-4 and JN-4 Jenny, 1/48, 200-198

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

$164

Rare one-and-only 1960 issue that contains both the DH-4 and Curtis JN-4 Jenny. Aurora really went out of the way to make this a special kit; however, it did not sell well and was retired after one year. Features completely new box artwork, a DH-4 molded in gloss dark green and black, the JN-4 molded in gloss bright yellow and black, great custom decal sheets for both aircraft and special 'Barnstormer' instructions for each aircraft. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts present and includes decals and instructions. Instructions are both in 'excellent+' condition and the decal sheets are both completely flat (no rolling) with typical age yellowing as the only flaw.

Aurora Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress, 1/156, 491-49

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+

$125

Rare issue with 'Famous Fighters' in the oval sunburst logo; this release only lasted only one year and is the true 1961 issue. (in 1962 the 'Famous Fighters' was dropped from the logo). The kit is molded in the correct gloss olive drab and clear plastic and contains the correct clear Aurora 'world' triangle stand. The kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions.

Lindberg Landing Ship Tank LST Motorized, 1/250, 725M-198

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc++

$145

Rare 1950s hardbox issue with dramatic Ray Gaedke artwork. This is a well detailed larger scale kit that features an electric motor and hardware for water operation, one-piece hull, detailed deck and superstructure & more. Never started and inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. The box has superb color and gloss. It would rate higher than 'excellent' but is rated as such because there is one closed split on one corner at the lower left. This model has a fascinating history. It was originally produced by Varney in 1944. It was novel at the time as it had a wooden hull, cardstock deck but the deck fittings, superstructure and other details were injection molded tenite. When the early Varney aircraft and ship kits did not sell well, Gorden Varney sold the molds for the kit to O-lin (Olsen and Lindberg). O-Lin reworked the kit using a vacuform hull, cardstock deck, metal railings and tenite parts. When Lindberg took full control of O-lin, he modified the molds for a third time so the kit has metal railings but all other parts are injection molded. In the fourth and final modification (this kit), all parts are injection molded plastic.

Cleveland 1934 Turners Wedell-Williams Racer - Free-Flight Rubber Powered Flying Aircraft, 1/24, D-48

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

$75

Very rare 1930s issue that is even rarer in amazing 'excellent' condition box and 'tissue sealed' inside. This is a Cleveland 'D' or dwarf kit. The term 'Dwarf' is just a bit deceptive, as it is Cleveland's designation for 1/24 scale. Most Cleveland kits were designated 'SF' or Scale Flying - 1/16 scale. The Dwarf kits were needed to fill a market demand for smaller flying models. All Cleveland kits were exceptionally complete and Dwarfs were no exception, containing very high quality balsa printwood, stringers & spars, fully formed wheels, covering tissue, a wood propeller that is about 90% carved and just needs final sanding, gray rigging thread (if required), metal and balsa stock as required and more. With Cleveland's famous high-quality plans. Amazingly, this kit is still 'factory tissue sealed' inside. When the Cleveland workers packed each kit, they wrapped them in tissue that effectively made a seal which has not been disturbed. Whoever buys it will be the first one to see the contents since it was packed in the factory over 90 years ago. Cleveland Model and Supply Company played a pivotal role in the development of true scale models. In 1909 Bleriot's English Channel flight caused a surge in aviation and model aircraft around the globe. Several companies were ideally positioned to take advantage of the aviation craze. In the USA, Wading River Manufacturing Co. (1909), White Aeroplane (1911), Ideal Model Aeroplane (1911), Broadfield Model Aeroplanes (1919) were among these pioneers, offering everything from plans and parts to complete kits and ARF models. Lindbergh's 1927 crossing of the Atlantic Ocean caused an even bigger world-wide phenomenon called "The Aviation Craze" that extended up to the start of World War II. Many companies such as Megow, Guillow's and others started right around the time of Lindbergh's flight. Some of these models flew and flew well, but they all had one thing in common - were generally not accurate scale representations. In 1929, a youngster named Ed Packard had a very advanced dream- to produce incredibly accurate, true scale models that flew perfectly. This radical idea established the world's longest running single-owner (77 years) model airplane supply business - Cleveland Model and Supply Company. To this day, Cleveland models are treasured as the most accurate flying scale models produced. The fact that Mr. Packard started and successfully grew this business during The Great Depression is a testament to his ideals and business skill. I highly suggest the excellent book called 'Aviation's great Recruiter - Cleveland's Ed Packard' by H.L. (Herm) Schreiner. It is an excellent history of the man, his company and the times of the Golden Age of Model Aviation.

Mach 2 Blohm und Voss Ha-139 - Luftwaffe Minesweeper, 1/72, MC0032

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed Exc

$72

Still factory sealed. The Ha-139 was an attractive, all metal inverted gull wing floatplane. At one time it was the largest float-equipped aircraft in the world. Initially, this was a civil aircraft and between 1937-1939 and Deutsche Luft Hansa flew them on trans-Atlantic routes, mainly between Bathurst, Gambia and Natal, Brazil. They were catapult-launched from a tender ship (such as the Friesenland) and were able to transport 500kg of mail up to 5,000 km. At the start of World War II, the Ha-139s were transferred to the Luftwaffe where they were used for transport, reconnaissance and minesweeping in the Baltic. While successful in the civil role, they were not well suited to military work.

KSN Midori Kawasaki N1K2 George - Motor Drives Prop and Wheel and Wing Navigation Lights Work, 1/28, 800-05

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

$375

Very rare. Large 1/28 scale motorized kit with many working features. A factory-assembled metal gear box with nylon gears is driven by a common FA-130 motor. The gearbox spins the propeller and drives the tail wheel, moving the aircraft across any smooth surface while the red and green wing navigation light blink on and off. Factory glue is included as well as all running hardware and lights. Please note that KSN did not furnish the motor with the kit. Features hidden battery compartment (where the real engine would be), moving rudder, elevator, ailerons and wing flaps and an opening canopy. The kit has never been started. Inside it is just as it left the factory. The small parts, gearbox, lights and glue are still factory sealed. The plastic parts that were factory sealed are still sealed in the original clear bags; the few large parts that were never sealed (wings and fuselage) are inventoried compete. The checkerboard cardboard presentation material and large full-color card showing aircraft and famous pilots is in very good condition. Includes instructions and decals in 'very good++' condition. Please NOTE that the box displays slightly better than 'very good' but is graded as such because there is a tape tear on the left short side. There is a color cardboard advertisement inside showing that KSN Midori also made the following car kits: 1/16 1904 Wolseley, 1/16 1904 De Dion Bouton, 1/20 1907 Itala Pechino Parigi and a 1/24 1910 Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

Inventoried 100% complete including all parts, the original small parts 'krinkle' bag (torn open), flag sheet and instructions. The early style flag sheet is in 'excellent' condition and the instructions are the correct very large format for this issue and in 'excellent+' condition with the typical age yellowing as the only significant flaw. Aurora 1913 Mercer Raceabout Old Timers, 1/16, 572-198

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

$74

1961 issue. Done in a big 1/16 scale, this kit and the other 'Old Timers' in the series represented a significant leap forward in quality for Aurora. The kit features full suspension, transaxle and driveline detail. It builds up a rolling chassis like the real car, and includes full exhaust and a detailed interior. Molded in gloss ivory, gloss black and with chrome plated parts and real rubber tires. The kit has never been started. Inside, it is exactly as it left the factory. The black parts are still in the factory sealed bags. The ivory, chrome and clear were never factory sealed and have been inventoried complete including the instructions. Please note that the radiator emblem is neatly broken off but present for a simple repair. Aurora was renowned for turning a profit and for keeping expenses down. In researching new kit subjects, they came upon a forgotten jewel - the Hudson Miniatures line of 1/16 scale wooden kits. Hudson had discontinued this line due to lack of sales of wooden kits. But the Hudson models were second to none in quality, research and documentation. Aurora was quick to realize this and used the research and layout from these kits to create the subjects for this 'Old Timers' series. It is fortunate for us that they did, because in most cases this is the only injection molded kit of these rare and classic early automobiles.
