Rare kit from the early 1940s during World War II. This model features stick-and-tissue construction, several printwood sheets, stringers and spars, Comet's new 'Victory' die-cut propeller and blue and yellow covering tissue. Never started and inventoried complete with all parts and plans/instructions. Comet was a famous manufacturer of stick and tissue flying and static models. In the 1930s Great Depression, they lead the low-priced kit revolution with the "Dime Scale" kits and famous advertisements in Model Airplane News magazine and others. Comet reached it's peak in the 1930s when they acquired the services of Carl Goldberg. Goldberg was a highly accomplished modeler with articles in Model Airplane News and famous designs that won him several National level competitions in the 1930s and beyond. (Carl Goldberg went on to found his own company and produced well designed and popular free-flight and RC aircraft). Comet survived the post World War economic slump and continued kit production until they were bought out by long-time competitor Guillow's in 1998.

Rare 1905s model in excellent condition inside and out. As with most Comet kits, this one is very nicely molded with all recessed panel detail and no unsightly rivets. Features rotating propellers, sonar dome, extensive clear windows, wing search light with clear cover and includes the Comet 'Teardrop' shaped display stand. Molded in gloss gray and clear. Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions.

Rare late 1950s issue with great box artwork. Nicely molded small scale kit with all recessed panel lines, rear gun turret, clear cockpit canopy and aux. gas tanks on the outboard wings. Molded in silver and clear with the traditional Comet 'Teardrop' stand. The kit has not been started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions. It is interesting to note that this kit was not reissued by Aurora in the United States...however, it was reissued as an Aurora of Canada Issue using the USA 1956 box artwork. Although Aurora purchased the Comet molds, they had already cut their own molds for a small scale B-52. The Aurora kit is significantly larger (1/270 scale) that the Comet issue and varies in many details.

Rare, highly-prefabricated flying model from the early 1950s in very good condition. The Flash-Bilt Skynight features completely printed color designs in red and green on the balsa wood, all die-cut parts, nose weight, hardwood launching dowel, launch stick, rubber band and step-by-step detailed and illustrated assembly instructions and illustrated flying instructions as well. Comet had an incredible line of stick and tissue flying models, solid wood scale model, gliders and display models in the 1950s. The back of this box lists no less than 12 Flash-Bilt Gliders (H1-H12), 25 Cent Flying Scale Models (E1-E26), 25 Cent Struct-O-Speed Flying Models (F1-F14), Solid Scale 25 Cent models (S1-S12), the larger 50 Cent Struct-O-Speed Flying models (K1-K6), larger 50 Cent fliers (L1-L12), even bigger $1 Struct-O-Speed flyers M1-M9) and $1 flying models (P1-P12), Jetex Powered Flying Scale model SP-1, which was a F-94C Starfire at whopping $2.49, Ship Models J1 through J6, the top-of-the-line Gas Models T6 Rookie Trainer ($3.50), T17 Little Schmoe ($1.50), free-flight T4 Pacemaker ($2.50), various Gliders and Auto Racer Z2, the Jetex powered Jet Racer.

Comet Stinson - 6 Inch Wingspan Solid Wood Model Airplane, 1/68, S6

Rare 1950 issue is very near to 1/72 scale. The model Features 2D factory cut fuselage & wing, a die-cut sheet of parts, fully finished wheels and excellent plans/instructions. NOTE: the fuselage has been slightly started. There is no other assembly. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts & plans present. In the 1930s and 1940s, most modelers built the flying stick and tissue type models with rubber, co2 or gas power. But there were a small but measurable percent that built solid aircraft display models of great detail. This required great skill worthy of the shipbuilders of old, especially considering the limited offerings. Many manufacturers, such as Comet issued blocks of wood and a plan - the famous (or infamous) 'Make Wood Look Like Plane' kits.

Comet Sento Ki-001 Japanese Navy Fighter Official Identification Kit, 1/72, IA-16

A very rare kit from about 1941/42. This model is 'Identical to the one used in the Model Building Program of the US Office of Education sponsored by the US Navy, Bureau of Aeronautics' which was a program launched in 1941. During WWII the higher speed of aircraft made the traditional WW1 'recognition cards' nearly useless and 3D models were needed. The US Armed Forces looked to the general population to produce recognition models. While not fully successful due to irregular quality and supply, it quickly paved the way for superior injection molded recognition models. This kit features wood blocks, sheets and stock, glue, sandpaper, an excellent, very thick paper template, outline & gauge sheet as well as fold-out full size plans with aircraft history and detailed carving and building instructions. Never started and complete. Although misidentified, the "Sento Ki-001" is a single-engine, low wing monoplane (that is not a Zero). The large right end flap on the box has fallen off and is inside the box. The left one, with the name of the kit, is present. The box is only 'good-'.

Rare kit from the mid to late 1950s. Comet made two plastic P-47 models and this is the larger of the two. Never started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. Comet was an early wooden flying and scale model kit manufacturer that branched out into plastic kits in the 1950s with a large line of small and mid-scale civil and military kits. The plastic line was sold to Aurora around 1960. Aurora had no P-47 in it's lineup, so when it purchased the Comet molds, Aurora reissued this this 1/48 P-47 and the smaller one.

Comet Lockheed F-104A Starfighter, 1/62, PL500-69

Hard-to-find 1950s issue. Shortly after this release, Comet sold all their model molds to Aurora. Comet had made two F-104 kits - this is the larger scale one. Inside, the kit is like new and molded in gloss silver and clear. Includes the Comet Model Hobbycraft catalog mailer. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals in amazing 'near mint' condition and 'excellent' instructions. This is the second issue with one instruction sheet. The first issue actually had two instructions sheets - the standard one, and the Supplement. The first draft of the instructions left out the stand ball retainer, and the supplement includes that omission.

Rare model injection molded plastic model from the late 1950s. In the mid 1950s Comet, then known for it's line of stick and tissue flying model aircraft, branched out into plastic model kits. By 1963, Comet sold all production molds to Aurora, and Aurora reissued the kits. This lead to Aurora having three different scale B-58 kits in stock - their own near 1/72 and the two from Comet. This is the larger of the two Comet issues in the two piece hardbox. it would date from the late 1950s or early 1960s. Very nicely molded and detailed for it's time. The kit has never been started. Internal factory sealed bag or inventoried 100% complete including decals and instructions. Please note that the box displays slightly better than 'very good++' but is rated as such because each long side has small, 1/2" x 1/2" tape tears from the factory sealing tape.

Rare 1945 issue. Features detailed three view plans with cutting patterns and sanding templates as well as painting color tips, two sheets of printwood and wood stock. Never started and inventoried 100% complete with all parts, plans and also basic instructions on the back of the box. Very rare kit from 1934. Stick and tissue kit almost never turn up from this early. This is a very nice model with excellent and highly detailed plans showing numerous drawings, parts layout and full-size templates, numerous detailing tips and excellent text instructions. They even have an actual photo of the fuselage being built. In addition there is a full size sheet of separate text instructions. The parts feature four sheets of printwood, strip wood in different sizes, original two colors of tissue paper, very large, colorful and comprehensive insignia sheet, fully carved wood prop, fully carved spinner and wheels, two sheets of sandpaper, a paper envelope of metal detail parts, clear canopy material with the window frames printed on, metal stock, quality strip balsa and balsa blocks and rigging cord. NOTE: the following fuselage bulkheads have been cut out and are missing but are full-size on the plans: #1, #2, #3 and #4. Otherwise inventoried with all other parts and plans present. Three other parts are neatly cut out and present. No other parts are cut. The box top is complete with all four sides and top but is tattered on and along the lower long side; there is also general wear and damage as shown. It does display better than the grade, but is rated as such due to the damage on the box sides The tray (bottom box) is 'very good-' with some wear to the edges. Inside, the superb plans are 'very good++.' They were never 'pinned down' for assembly, have no writing on them and the folds are solid (not fragile.) Flaws are a 3" closed tear and the normal yellowing.
