1/72 681 Airfix Short Sunderland III
Plastic Model Kit, Box Condition: Sealed Exc+
Still factory sealed. Type 3 logo 1960s issue 'Porcupine'. Older but nicely detailed model features beaching gear, rotating turrets with elevating guns, movable control surfaces, external bomb load and rotating props. The Sunderland's 21-year record with the RAF has made it a legend. Derived from the Empire Class Flying Boat Airliners, Sunderland IIIs had a top speed of 210 mph and an endurance of 12 hours. These qualities made the Sunderland a superb platform for North Sea and North Atlantic patrols, ASW and SAR. Crews usually loved the airplane; its large size afforded many airborne comforts that bomber or fighter crews could only dream of, such as bunk, a head and an area for food preparation.
