The Auster 6 Antarctic was a specially modified aircraft supplied to the Antarctic expedition. It has additional fuel capacity and more elaborate radio and DF equipment. The Auster was first introduced during WWII as an artillery observation and liaison aircraft. Since that time it was progressively developed for both military and civil use.
