Fador 1909 EMF Single Seater / EMF Touring / EMF Roadster - 3 in 1 - Builds Your Choice Of Three, 1/16

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+

$79

Rare kit from about 1949. Very unique in that it may well be the first use of the term '3 in 1' when referred to a model kit. Big scale model is highly detailed for that time and measures 8.75 inches long when assembled. Includes parts and instructions for building one of the three versions listed. Features a large number of die-cut, machined and saw-cut wooden parts and excellent plastic wheels, grill/radiator, steering wheel, headlights, lanterns and horn. Also includes metal parts, metal stock and die-cut cardstock. Includes superb, large full-size plans with four elevation drawings, a great many detail drawings, templates and even the correct tufting pattern for the seats! Extensive text instructions are furnished also and there is even a detachable tonneau and detailed painting instructions. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts. The EMF 30 was produced by the EMF company which stood for Everett, Metzger and Flanders - the three owners. But in the early days it was jokingly referred to as 'The Every Morning Fix It" and "Every Mechanical Failure." Each car came complete with a catalog numbering every single part, which made replacements easily obtainable. The engine was four cylinders and turned out a very respectable 30 horsepower. It had a 106 inch wheelbase and held 15 gallons. All cars were painted EMF Red and were a sight to behold. The EMF 30 price with standard equipment was $1250 and included acetylene headlights, generator, side oil lamps, tail lamps, lamp brackets, tube horn, tire repair kit and magneto. Fador was another maker of big 1/16 classic cars, like Hudson Miniatures. The full name was Fador Mfg. Company and the address was 501E. Clinton St., Elmira, NY. It appears that Hudson beat Fador to the scene by a year; Hudson's spectacular product line growth starting in 1948 may have influenced Fador in the choice of subject and scale. Fador called the line 'Smallersters' and the design of the kits is very similar. Fortunately, Fador chose completely different vehicles. Because of their great decisions, these are often the only model kits ever made of these historical cars. There is no record of Fador making any plastic kits; the introduction and overwhelming popularity of the Highway Pioneers and the other kits that quickly followed may have driven them out of the market as it did many other wood manufactures. In 1949 the Fador line consisted of a 1909 Hupmobile Roadster, 1904 Cadillac Runabout, 1905 REO 4 Passenger Runabout and one kit that was "3 In 1' - it made one of the following: 1909 EMF Single Rear Seater, 1909 EMF Touring or EMF Roadster. The Baker Electric kit was introduced in 1950 and possibly others as well.

Hudson Miniatures 1914 Regal Colonial Coupe, 1/16

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

$89

Very well detailed large 1/16 kit from 1949. Features two large plan and instructions sheets, a large number of detailed drawings of sub-assemblies,numerous actual photos of the built model, stamped metal hood, plastic wheels, grill, headlamps, spotlight, running lights and other accessories and die-cut wooden main parts. Builds up a rolling chassis just like the actual car. Although all of Hudson's 1/16 kits have excellent detail, this is 'super' detailed thanks to Hudson's engineers having access to the actual car during and after restoration. It was restored at the Hudson Miniatures factory and was on display there at the time! This kit has never been started. The small parts are still in the internally sealed factory bag and all other parts have been inventoried 100% complete with two large sheets of full size plans and instructions. In the 1940s, Hudson had established a name in making 1/16 scale 'Old Timer' models of automobiles. These were excellent kits with wood and metal parts, but a high degree of skill was required to carve and finish the wood parts. In the late 1940s, they added some injection molded plastic parts (usually acetate wheels, grills and lamps) to the series but did not consider a completely plastic kit. When Hudson saw what was happening with the Gowland/Revell Highway Pioneers, he began to design his own 1/32 scale line called 'Lil Old Timers', which hit the stores in 1954. An early paper fold-out catalog shows 18 models including some real gems like the 1910 International Harvester Passenger Car, 1911 Brush Delivery Truck and 1906 Columbia Electric Car just to name a few. The plastic line was bought by Revell a short time after it's release, and Revell did reissue some (but not all) of the kits. The wooden 1/16 scale car line was discontinued in the early 1950s. To this day, these fine kits are often the only large scale models of these historic vehicles. The 1914 Regal Coupe is perhaps the rarest of all cars ever built in America. It was underslung, which was rare for the time, and the body was all wood and similar to old horse-drawn carriages of colonial times. The design was sometimes called a Colonial Coupe. The large car seated only two people and could hit 40 mph with it's 25 hp engine.

Gowland & Gowland Bonne Homme Richard - Shipyard Ships in Miniature

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+

$24

Rare early ship kit from 1952. Very nicely detailed and molded, especially for that era. Includes sails, molded base and clear sheet plastic with the ratlines printed on them to simplify assembly. The box sides illustrates and names the 10 kits of this line. All were available in regular (such as this kit) or 'Ship In A Bottle' versions. This kit has never been started and is still sealed in the original 'krinkle' bag. It appears that Gowland & Gowland has not received the credit that it deserves in the plastic kit revolution that took America by storm in the early 1950s. Gowland developed the first all plastic car made in the USA in 1950, the 1911 Maxwell. Even more interesting is that Kevin and Jack Gowland developed the 'Highway Pioneers' in 1951 which heralded the future for the American Hobby Industry. The reason that Gowland's name is not in the fore-front of model history is that Precision Specialties (later Revell) did the distribution for Gowland. The Shipyard in Miniature contains 9 ships total: Bon Homme Richard, Constitution, Revenue cutter, the Savannah, Flying Cloud, Gertrude L. Thebaud, Golden Hind, Mayflower and Santa Maria.

Aurora Curtiss Hawk P-6E, 1/43, 116-98

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

$65

The kit is dated 1958, but this is obviously a later issue as the Aurora logo does not say 'Famous Fighters' in the border and has no sunburst. The two side logos, however, do say 'Famous Fighters' on the logo. Due to the 100 price extension, it is most likely from 1960 or '61. Kit features movable rudder, elevators and wing ailerons, cockpit with pilot, seat, instrument panel, gun sight and feet stirrups, auxiliary gas tank and rotating prop and wheels. Molded in gloss dark green and clear. The kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete including decals and instructions.

Revell American Firefighters Chemical and Ladder, 1/48, F201-98

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

$79

Dated 1953 with a wonderful hardbox illustration. Kit also includes horses, dog and fireman and real chain. The kit has not been started. Inside, it is still in the factory cello seal. Marlin first cut the molds in 1952 and issued the six original American Firefighters (Chemical and Ladder, Steamer, Hook and Ladder, Water Tower, Aerial Ladder and Hose Reel) in 1952. Revell signed a marketing agreement with Marlin in 1953. Five of the kit were released with the Revell name and marketing name 'Collectors Kits, Closter N.J.' Revell added the horse parts as they were not originally part of the Marlin issues. The kits made excellent display pieces, but they never caught the imagination of young men like jet aircraft did. The five molds were shipped to Brazil. After run for Kikoler (Revell Brazil's Distributor), they were shipped back to the USA but the molds were lost at sea. This issue is from when Revell still had the marketing agreement, as it says 'Trade Mark Copyright 1953 Marlin Toy Co. Inc' on the box top and 'Collector's Kits, Inc, Closter, N.J.' on the side.
